Yes the 1.0 motor will work. It won't be quite as powerful. But it will work. You probably will not even see the difference in the power. But yes the motor will work
With newer models will not work things that you attach to the vacuum such as the hose and the carpet shampoo attachment. Loose attachments will work just fine. It is same diameter holes that are being used in later models.
Switch - there is not much you can do without getting inside of the vacuum. You have to access inside and get it fixed.
