The power supply board inside the TV has fuses that may have blown. It is possible that the board suffered damage so if you're handy with a screw driver and a volt meter, open the back of the TV and verify that all the voltages are present.
Where on the set did he connect his cell phone? How did he connect his cell phone?
If he used an adapter with a video output, the set is most likely set to an unused input and has to be manually put back. The remote can be used to select the inputs. I cannot see how a cell phone can damage any TV set.

This is called the pop of death! If you call vizio they will ask you if you heard a pop, this is a common issue and unless your under warrenty your looking at 916$ to fix it. (assuming you have no sound! If you do its 430$ plus tax for parts and repair. You can buy a used one on ebay for that price!
I have the parts numbers if you want them!
Call vizio if you have had this system for under a yr the will fix it free!
As for me my 50 and 42 inch had this issue and well I am out of warrenty.. I hate vizio lol!

If you purchased the TV 6 months ago, still under manufacturers warranty. They normally give customers 1 year warranty coverage.
It looks like the main board will have to be replace on this TV or fix to the component level.

lol , technicaly it's not possible to plug a USB PORT , into an RJ45 Phone Jack lol
But lets assume he did manage to do just that.
A. Land Lines in the united states phone system use -48 volts of electrical power.
B. USB ports that provide power to USB devices use +5 volts of electrical power.
What you have described to me would suggest to me that your USB port has been overloaded
by the input of a much higher voltage sourse ( the phone line )
Some suggested steps
1. completely unplug the computers power cable for approximately 15 seconds.
2. plug the computer back up and press the power button.
If this fails you may now have a defective motherboard or a blown power supply.
You have some options at this point.
You can change the power supply and see if that solves the issue
If a new power supply does not solve the issue
you will need to change the motherboard.
My advice on changing the motherboard is that you replace ONLY the motherboard first.
If more things like the Memory or CPU are dammaged , you will then replace them as needed.
I feel very dissapointed that your son was unable to accomplish his computer hacking goals lol
perhaps when he is older he will make a fine Engineer.
Thank you for using FixYa!

Hi Michelle Fulkerson, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
How did your son manage to plug a cell phone into the TV set? Did he attempt to charge it from a diagnostic USB port on the back of the set?
