What can I do to fix the sound on my HP Pavilion desktop model #P6674Y (4 years old)? The only sound is a scratching noise. I thought I needed a new monitor, but that is not the problem. I've had tech...

Go into control panel and search for sound icon.there are several things you need to the mute box checked anywhere in the drop down menus.usually you can control this via keyboard using the fn button along with the blue icons on the top row of keyboard.but if you are in control panel in the sound settings check all the sliders are up and check tick boxes.there is an area whereby you can test the sound output.if there is no sound coming after you check then try to use earphones in the socket.if they are working it could mean the onboard speakers are faulty.i am assuming the sound card is okay the drivers for the sound card are okay.
lastly if still no sound you might try going into device manager the windows key and pause break button together ...look for device manager....look for the sound card....uninstall it....then rescan for hardware changes...that will force the computer to reinstall the card which usually resets audio settings to default.hope this was helpful..good luck.

five years is the life of many of these sets, the only parts sold are boards so I would guess main board but others are possible, I wonder if boards can even be found for a five year old LG?

Viewsonic VA720 LCD 17'' monitor LED light blinking, no display

there is atleast a 5 year difference between your computers. Technology has made a huge jump from back then, especially in graphics cards!!! that LCD was probably made after your computer, alot after your computer as a matter of fact. So it is your graphics card. get a new computer, its time to update

Ethernet port connection failure

You could get another ethernet card from ebay for less than $10. Although, honestly, I don't think the port could have oxidized in 5 years. What is the error message(s)?

Whirlpool refridg side by side

This sounds like the compressor is bad. The clicking sound is the start relay trying to start the compressor and cannot. You stated that it was only four years old. Check the warranty for your frig. Most carry a five year warranty on the compressor.

No sound

To check the status of the audio adapter...right-click on My Computer>Properties> Hardware >Device Manager.

In the list of hardware devices, look for Sound, Video and Game Controllers. If Windows has detected any problems with a device or driver, you should see a small yellow or red indicator next to the troublesome device.

Vertical output problem

you probably just need to resolder the vertical output IC. It will be mounted on a heat sinc. probably 7-10 pins. Part number may start with "LA" like LA7845 or similar, there are others though. You will probably see the rings around the solder joints on the bottom of the board. Good Luck
