Why does the black ink not print?

Printer was not used for a month. Black cartridge was low, stopped printing and I installed new cartridge. The printer recognizes it is there and shows ink level is full, but does not print black. Other colors are fine.

Try going to the maintenance screen and running the cleaner and any other adjustments that can be made from there.

SOURCE: HP 6940 color cartridge light will not stop blinking

I might have an idea why this is happening....The print cartridges might need cleaning...
Follow the steps below to do this....

Step one: Remove the black, photo print cartridge, or the gray photo print cartridge

NOTE:
The black, photo print cartridge, or the gray photo print cartridge is in the right side of the carriage. -Lower the cover of the product.
-If the print cartridge status light flashes, proceed to Step two: Replace the print cartridge.
If the print cartridge status light is off, proceed to Step three: Manually clean the print cartridge.
Step two: Replace the black, photo print cartridge, or the gray photo print cartridge and remove the tri-color print cartridge
- Remove plastic tape from new ink carttridge CAUTION:
Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts. Touching these parts will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Do not remove the copper electrical contacts.

NOTE:
The tri-color print cartridge is in the left side of the carriage.
-Lower the cover of the product. -If the print cartridge status light stops flashing, proceed to Step three: Manually clean the print cartridge.
If the print cartridge status light still flashes, replace the tri-color print cartridge. If the issue continues, service the product.

Step three: Manually clean the print cartridge
1. Gather the following items to clean the print cartridge and carriage:
o Clean distilled water. Use bottled or filtered water if distilled water is not available. Tap water can contain contaminants that damage the cartridge.
o Clean cotton swabs or any soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the cartridges (coffee filters work well).
o Sheets of paper or a paper towel to rest the cartridges on during cleaning.
2. Open the product cover, and wait until the carriage stops moving.
3. Remove the print cartridge, and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.

NOTE:
Clean the contacts quickly so that the print cartridge is not outside of the product for more than 30 minutes. If the cartridge is outside of the product for too long, the ink can dry and clog the nozzles.
4. Unplug the product.
5. Dip a swab in the clean water, and then squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp.
6. Clean the print cartridge contacts. Do not touch the nozzles.
7. Clean the contacts in the carriage, inside the product.8. Either let the print cartridge sit for ten minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.
9. Reinstall the print cartridge.
10. Plug the product back in.
11. Close the product cover.

Good Luck!
If there is anything more I can do for you please let me know if not and the problem is solved please rate it, Thanks, JCE

SOURCE: printer replaced with black cartridge, and doesnt print

Either the print head for black is faulty, or the wiring to the black print head on carriage are broken. Try also cleaning the metal sensor to the black cartridge inside the ink carriage.

SOURCE: just installed refilled color and black ink

I found these instruction at out-of-warranty.com They seem like a possible solution.

Steps:

  1. Press Cancel and Power, at the same time.
  2. Then, the Unit will ask for a Key Combo, press blue, green, gray buttons (in order) for this.
  3. “Support Menu” should appear.
  4. Go to Resets menu and use the semi-full reset.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck.

Re: brother mfc 210c printer-fax. will not print black- only color. have replaced black cartridge w/ no improvement

Try removing the colored cartridge and see if it will print. Also on your print settings try to see if you can select print using black only. next look at the black cartridge and see if ink is flowing or if there are any blots or clots that would stop the ink.

I have an all-in-one Kodak ESP 3250 printer. Bought it 4 months ago. I'm interested in printing only in black, but now the color cartridge has emptied and it won't let me print with the black cartridge...

The KODAK All-in-One Printer uses an advanced built-in printhead. The system is designed to provide excellent image and text quality, while eliminating the need to purchase new printheads every time you replace ink cartridges, and saving you money. The printing system requires that both the black and color ink cartridges be installed to print. If either cartridge is not installed or is out of ink, the printer or printhead will not print correctly.

Install the color a new cartridge, avoid damage to the print head.

Bland and color cartridges have been refilled but

Ink level counter (program) didn't read actually ink at ink tank. Brand new cartridge ink level counter 100% (full), and ink 100% (about 10 ml). After may printing, ink will dry out, and ink level counter reach zero (ink out). Printer will not allow print anymore, even have refilled, because ink level read "ink out". For canon type, you just to release ink level counter, and counter just stop, but printer will allow to print. Press stop/reset button for about 30 second.

I have a HP Deskjet 882C printer and for the past month we are having problems printing text (B&W). We have removed the black ink cartridge and it still has a lot of ink in the cartridge. When we put a...

To clean the HP Inkjet print cartridges from the HP Toolbox, using a Windows operating system, perform these steps:
  1. Double-click the HP Toolbox icon on the computer screen.
  2. Click the Printer Services tab.
  3. Click Clean the print cartridges and follow the directions on the screen.
If the print quality improves after completing this sequence once, but the quality is still not quite good enough, repeat procedure. Start at Step 1, or click the Clean Again button on the final cleaning window. If this process does not improve the print quality, the HP Inkjet print cartridges might be low on ink. See the document that is provided with the black HP Inkjet print cartridge for instructions about how to use the ink level sensor to determine if the cartridge is low on ink. Replace the HP Inkjet print cartridges, if appropriate.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking BEWARE SPAM NUMBER 1-800-532-4187

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
