I have a 1997 ford expedition xlt humming noise front differential no fluid , had fluid put in by repair shop noise still there. And does the differential effect the rpm's
Your differential has no effect on your rpm range the diff is part of the drivetrain components im not quite sure but this might sound like a bearing starting to go out. Question is is the noise coming from the motor or the differential to figure this out drive the vehical and while it is humming shift it in to neutral if the humming noise is still present then it would be part of the drivetrain. if the noise goes away then you know its the motor making the noise.

I'm having the same problem with my 2006 Chevy 2500 duramax...The humming starts at 25mph and then gets less prominent and then at 50mph it gets more prominent and louder, then at 60mph you can hardly hear it.....I did notice a little bit of leakage where the front axel meets the from diff on the drivers side.
Any suggestions?
