Wii locks up

When loading GuitarHero3 it did some kind of upgrade. After a couple hours of playing the game, I tried to exit & the system locks up, with a constant tone and frozen screen. Resetting or removing power doesn't get rid of frozen screen. Wii is 3 months old. Help!

I'm not sure if other games would also cause the problem because it is locked-up! I shut the Wii off, remove the power for awhile, and when I restart, the screen is still frozen & emits a sound. I repeated this after a couple weeks, and the problem remains. I'm not sure if Guitar Hero actually caused the problem, or it was just happened to run running at the time of the failure. But again, when I loaded the game for the first time, it seemed to be checking and/or updating the Wii OS in order to be able to run the game program. I don't know if that may have led to the lockup, or if I actually have a hardware failure.

Now I have to figure out how to get Nintendo to do a warranty repair.....

Thanks for any input you may have!

    Hi all,

Same problem (kinda). We experience the same problem playing GH3.
During gameplay, our Wii console will sieze up and emit an audible (and
highly annoying tone). Is there anyone who knows a way to fix this (other than not playing GH3?).

Our Wii just started doing this yesterday. We got the new Star wars
game 'Force Unleashed' and thought it was because of the game
(graphics, etc.) but then we put in Blast Works and it did the exact
    same thing! Very frustrating!

Have to pull the plug to make it stop.
Should we box up and send in? Or is there a 'patch' to fix it?

We noticed ours during SSX Blur - same symptom. You play for a while, and it sticks with a tone. No buttons work except the eject disc. Must pull power to restart.

It has happened twice in an hour.

We've had our machine over a year but keep it connected for system updates.

Same problem here as well. We bought ours mid-November, 2008 but didn't unpack it until Christmas eve. I tested it out a bit that night since I was hooking it up for the kids to play the next morning and it worked fine.  Christmas day though, it locks up no matter which game we're playing (Sports, Fit, or Shaun White Snowboarding using the balance board). Sometimes there's a tone, other times the screen just goes black. The store I bought it from said they'll replace the console so I guess I'm going to see if a new one fixes it.

The manager at one store suggested laying it flat instead of standing it up straight. I'm going to try it and see what happens. Anyone else tried this? Did it help?

Got Guitar Hero 3 for Christmas. Console locks up everytime we play GT3 only. I can press the power botton to re-boot the console, runs fine for awhile then locks up again... Please help. The game was bought at Toys R Us. I don't have the box it came in so I'm not sure I can return it

Our wii has worked fine, but the screen freezes white, it has now happened three times. When we reset it, it works fine, but we shouldnt have to do this. What should we do?

I inserted Guitar hero 3 which i got from boxing day today and after running it for 5 minutes, i get an error message. I couldn't remove the disk and with no choice i had to turn the system off. When i start it back up, the disk would not eject and the system doesn't detect the disk within it.

I have had this same problem with a few games. I have no idea of the fix but one thing I can tell everyone you should be able to hold down the power button for 5 to 10 Sec to power down. You should not have to pull the plug if you don't want to. Well, works for me.

Wii u games load but get stuck and wont play

HI Denise.

Sometimes a Wii or Wii U is unable to read a disk, or the game will freeze or crash. And sometimes the console won't play any disk at all. Before you throw the disk in the trash or the console out the window, here are a couple of things that might get you back to playing games.13 Jul 2017

When iload a game it does not show on the wii menu

You may have to upgrade the Wii system menu - is their system older than this year? We ahd the same issue this AM with Super Mario and Punch Out - connect your Wii to the internet and then
Just select the System Update option in Wii System Settings. This will update it and then they will work - if these are new games this year - our system was a 3.1 and it has to have the Wii system 4.0 for these newer games. Working fine now - give it a try...

We had the same issue this morning. you have to upgrade the Wii system menu. Look in the front page of the Super Mario Bros instruction bulletin and it tells you to do this. You have to be connected to the internet through your Wii though to do this, but our is now working. The download takes a few minutes but all is good. Hope this helps.

Just select the System Update option in Wii System Settings - just make sure your Wii is connected to the internet.

Storm last night, now Wii won't power up

Unplug everything! There is a "breaker" in the power supply and it may need to be reset. Just unplug all cables from the TV and outlets. Let it sit for a couple hours then plug everything back in and it should work fine. If not then the power supply has shorted out due to a strong power surge. You can claim it under your home owners insurance or call Nintendo and try to get it replaced. Thanks! Good luck and happy gaming!!

Wii won't load new games

That sounds rather odd to me, as I have bought a variety of games with really good graphics and such and none of them have given me that kind of message at all.

I would recommend checking with Nintendo before 'upgrading' the console, to make sure it is okay with them. It is odd that the game is making the recommendation, in my opinion.

ive heard this problem is common, the disc is dohle layered and requires an ungodly clean lens, so buy a good quality lens cleaning disc (cheap ones can just scratch the lens and make it worse), you can also send it into nintendo and they will do a proffessional cleaning for free then return your system
