When loading GuitarHero3 it did some kind of upgrade. After a couple hours of playing the game, I tried to exit & the system locks up, with a constant tone and frozen screen. Resetting or removing power doesn't get rid of frozen screen. Wii is 3 months old. Help!

- I'm not sure if other games would also cause the problem because it is locked-up! I shut the Wii off, remove the power for awhile, and when I restart, the screen is still frozen & emits a sound. I repeated this after a couple weeks, and the problem remains. I'm not sure if Guitar Hero actually caused the problem, or it was just happened to run running at the time of the failure. But again, when I loaded the game for the first time, it seemed to be checking and/or updating the Wii OS in order to be able to run the game program. I don't know if that may have led to the lockup, or if I actually have a hardware failure.
Now I have to figure out how to get Nintendo to do a warranty repair.....
Thanks for any input you may have!
-   I have had this same problem with a few games. I have no idea of the fix but one thing I can tell everyone you should be able to hold down the power button for 5 to 10 Sec to power down. You should not have to pull the plug if you don't want to. Well, works for me. -   Guest

-   I inserted Guitar hero 3 which i got from boxing day today and after running it for 5 minutes, i get an error message. I couldn't remove the disk and with no choice i had to turn the system off. When i start it back up, the disk would not eject and the system doesn't detect the disk within it.

-   Got Guitar Hero 3 for Christmas. Console locks up everytime we play GT3 only. I can press the power botton to re-boot the console, runs fine for awhile then locks up again... Please help. The game was bought at Toys R Us. I don't have the box it came in so I'm not sure I can return it-   jimmyhinkle

-   Same problem here as well. We bought ours mid-November, 2008 but didn't unpack it until Christmas eve. I tested it out a bit that night since I was hooking it up for the kids to play the next morning and it worked fine. Christmas day though, it locks up no matter which game we're playing (Sports, Fit, or Shaun White Snowboarding using the balance board). Sometimes there's a tone, other times the screen just goes black. The store I bought it from said they'll replace the console so I guess I'm going to see if a new one fixes it.
The manager at one store suggested laying it flat instead of standing it up straight. I'm going to try it and see what happens. Anyone else tried this? Did it help?

Our Wii just started doing this yesterday. We got the new Star wars game 'Force Unleashed' and thought it was because of the game (graphics, etc.) but then we put in Blast Works and it did the exact same thing! Very frustrating!
Have to pull the plug to make it stop. Should we box up and send in? Or is there a 'patch' to fix it?
Thanks! -Red redrady1@hotmail.com

Just send it back to nintendo and they fix it for free
Does it happen with all games or just Guitar Hero 3?

when trying to troubleshoot and very first start up the wii to play we can't select the start button- it's not lit up?
We noticed ours during SSX Blur - same symptom. You play for a while, and it sticks with a tone. No buttons work except the eject disc. Must pull power to restart.
It has happened twice in an hour.
We've had our machine over a year but keep it connected for system updates.

We have the exact problem. Did you find a soln to it?
Same problem (kinda). We experience the same problem playing GH3.
During gameplay, our Wii console will sieze up and emit an audible (and
highly annoying tone). Is there anyone who knows a way to fix this (other than not playing GH3?).
