Most of the time, when a computer begins to "start", but than shuts its-self off, the processor fan has failed. But, it could be the hard drive, or RAM. If the computer makes some beeping noises when it starts up, those can be the codes you need to help decide what exactly is wrong. Next time you start the computer, listen for the beep codes. If you get more than one short beep, than make a note how many, and how long the beeps were. Than you need to get online, and search out their meaning. Just type in computer beep codes.
