How do i get my headphone working on my compaq v6000

If you headphone really works.. when it pop ups to the message saying a device is plugged just select output!

When you plug your headphones in there is a dis connect the head phone jack should be contacting to break the circuit to the internal speakers. Try a different head phone set. If this doesn't work, the female jack is (in the computer) is probably malfuncitoning. This will require a decent repair man...

I suppose that you are using Windows XP. I was also facing the same problem with the same notebook, took it to HP Service Center and they told me that this laptop is not compatible with windows XP. Yes, if headphone has a driver uyou need to install it again on to your windows Vista while in XP it has a feature to autoinstall the headphone driver for some of the available models.

The only thing that comes to mind is a problem with the headphone jack. The jack, itself, could be bad and not opening the speaker circuit when the head phones are plugged in. The other thing might be that the plug on the head phones is not completely compatible with the jack. The second case could possibly be resolved by trying a different type, or brand, of headphones. The first problem would require tearing the laptop down to the point of being able to adjust or replace the jack.

usually all drivers for Compaq and HP computer systems (portable and non-portable) can be found on the HP support website (Click here to go to it), simply go there, chose your region, than your country, enter your model number (not the series, the model number, you would usually find it on the service tag, or wherever you would find a serial number), but be sure to chose "Download drivers and software (and firmware)", and than chose your operating system. If the sound is coming you have installed the driver properly

try to change the head phone jack , if doesnt help it could be the problem of your head phone socket. because when you insert the jack , circuit inside the headphone socket closes and your outside speakers will be off

Try the headfones through a sterio or something just to see if the headfone itself is not faulty if it is take it back to the shop and get a replacement. Else the socket for the plugin is faulty.
