Bought from someone else need to put my nane on it

You have to make 2 changes, One for the computer and one for the user. Here is how you do both:
CHANGE COMPUTER NAME:
  1. Right click my computer and select properties
  2. Select "Advanced System Settings" (skip if win xp)
  3. Select "Computer Name" tab
  4. click "change"
  5. Enter the name of your choice
CHANGE USER NAME:
You cannot change a user account by just changing the name. Just changing the name will make a cosmetic change only and not affect the underlying files/folders in the profile.

1. From an account with administrative privileges, go to Control Panel>User Accounts and create the new Standard user account named the way you want and at least one extra Administrator account. Call the latter "CompAdmin" or "Tech" or the like.
2. Log into the new Standard user account once so the profile files/folders are created and then log into CompAdmin.
3. Now go to Control Panel>System>Advanced>User Profiles>Settings
4. You will see where you can copy user accounts. Copy the old account to the new one from there. Use the Browse to select your new account (C:\Users\newaccount).
5. Log into the new correctly named account and make sure all your stuff is there and that it works the way you want. When you are satisfied, you can log out and into CompAdmin and delete the old user account from Control Panel>User Accounts.

If you wish to log into your new, corrected account automatically, do this:Start Orb>Search box>type: netplwiz [enter]
Click on Continue (or supply an administrator's password) when prompted by UAC

Uncheck the option "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to automatically log on by clicking on the desired account to highlight it and then hit OK. Enter the correct password for that user account (if there is one) when prompted. Leave it blank if there is no password (null).

I have forgotten my password for logging on to windows xp. is there any way I can reset the whole computer and start over.

No problem! We can recover Windows XP admin password.
Just download our windows password Recovery Tool 3.0 to recover your lost Windows passwords.
How does it work?

Just use the box below to download the utility. This is a ".exe" file which will burn itself onto a blank CD. Then pop the CD into your locked PC, and
boot from the CD.

If you have an Internet connection on your locked PC then it will automatically upload the encrypted password to our server for decryption. Once
decrypted, we will send you an email advising you where to log in to view your Windows password.

If you don't have an Internet connection to your locked PC, you can extract the encrypted password to a USB stick and upload manually to our website for
decryption.

It supports usb flash drive too.

Windows xp pro logon error message "unable to log you on because your account has been locked out"

Hey!
If your computer is a part of a business network, you should contact the network administrator so he/she would setup or reconfigure your user account correctly.

If it's a home computer, you'll have to log on as Administrator to unlock your account. To do so:
  1. Click Start -> Log off (user name).
  2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice.
  3. Type Administrator in the user name and fill in the Administrator account's password. Leave blank if there isn't any.
  4. Once logged in, Click Start -> Run...
  5. Type in: LUSRMGR.MSC and click OK.
  6. Double-click on Users folder.
  7. Double-click on your locked user account.
  8. Uncheck "Account is disabled" and click OK.
  9. Close "Local Users and Groups" window.
  10. Click Start -> Log off Administrator.
  11. Login to your user account!
Note: If you don't have access to the Administrator account (because you don't have the password), please do tell and I'll give you the instructions on how to reset it.

GOOD LUCK!
Pelu.

Laptop forgotten password

When you get to the log on screen, press the ctrl+alt+del combo twice. You should get another log on screen, change the user name to administrator, all lower case. leave the password blank and see if you can log on. Most people leave the administrator password blank...? If that gets you in, go to control panel, user accounts and change the password on your user account. Log off as administrator and log back in on your regular user name with the new password. Hope that works!
