Make sure the angle stop is open (the valve that comes out of the wall and is connected to the pipe that goes into the wall). This is what allows water to be supplied into the dishwasher basin.

What is the correct water level in a kitchenaid dishwasher?

There is a float inside, the float should be nearly to the shut off position when the dishwasher is full. If it isn't add water until it's about 2 inches deep, or within 1/2 inch of overlowing the front of the dishwasher. Run a cycle and see if your dishes are cleaner. If so, then the likely problem is with the water pump. Take this off, clean all screens and soak in Lime-Away or something similar and reinstall. In all probabilty if the dishwasher doesn't fill, there is dirt in the pump screen or buildup in the pump itself. If this does not fix the water level, then a new pump may be necessary (around $20-$40 on eBay).

Water remains in the bottom of the dishwasher (18 months old). Disposal is clear, glass trap is clear. What should I look for?

First : if this started after a new disposal was installed then you need to check the Knock out on the disposal located inside the pipe that sticks out of the disposal where you conect your dishwasher drain hose. ((((( Common Problem )))))

Ok, moving on, your dishwasher has a independent drain pump. if you know the noise of the drain pump and you do not here it. its a good chance that its bad and you can disconect it and put a volt metert to the 2 wires and check for 110V. of coures after you have your volt meter in place and ready to go you will then put your diswasher in drain and check your meter.

Here is a breakdown of a dishwasher with a simialr model number. # 60 is the drain pump.

It could be that your dishwasher is not getting enough water. Let the water fill the dishwasher, set the spray arms in the same direction. Add a large pot of hot water and run the dishwasher. Open the door and check to see if the spray arms have moved. If they have moved, replace the water inlet valve.
Remove the 4 screws holding the lower kick panel. Remove kick panel. Locate the water inlet valve. This is the electrical valve where the water pipe hooks into the dishwasher. Shut off the water to the Dishwasher and electrical to the dishwasher. Disconect the 2 wire plug at the water inlet valve. Disconect the water supply to the dishwasher at the valve and disconect the rubber hose attached to the valve. Install new valve and test machine.
I hope this helps.

My GE Profile Dishwasher circa mid 1990s will not completely drain. I took the drain cage off and found pieces of broken glass and old food remnants in it. I used a shop vac to **** it all out....

Sounds like there is. It is common to find objects or small pieces of cloth stuck in the water pump. Remove the water pump and disassemble it and reinstall it. Or purchase a new water pump and replace the old pump.

The water doesn't seem to drain in my Kenmore Elite dishwasher. Could this be a pump issue?

No , this is usually due to corn or rice that has plugged up in the diaphragm within the drain line that connects to the pump. Disconnect the line from the pump and remove the hard pipe from the pump. Clear debris and reinstall. Should use a shop vac to remove the water within the dishwasher or you will have a mess to clean up.

Water will not drain out completely

You probably have a partial blockage in the drain line or the drain pump. This is not difficult to check. Just open up the panel below the door of the dishwasher and look for the flexible drain line. It is attached to the drain line pump. Unscrew the pump from the dishwasher frame, disconect the drain line and take a look at the pump and the drain hose. You may find a piece of glass or other hard object that is causing the problem. good luck.

GE dishwasher

I just fixed this problem. Cause, a bone in the drain pump fins. Soloution: Get as much water out of the unit as possible, get a bunch of towels.Turn off water and dicconect all lines including the electrical. Pull unit out from under the counter and turn on right side (GE model that I have), mop up water off floor. Find the drain line and disconect from pump. Get your Torx set out and remove the 3 screws holding the housing and gently lift the pump motor. Remove the clog/blockage and replace the motor being CAREFUL to get it in straight so that youy don't screw up the big O ring. Replace all the screws etc. Hook up all the lines as you re-insert the unit back under the counter. This woked for me but as you can tell I had no "broken" parts.
