Problem for Dell Latitude C610 PC Notebook

Laptop screens (2) drive me crazy!!!(and I like it...)

My old laptop (nx9420) screen (matte 17') went almost 1/3rd black a couple of months after 3 vertical lines (blue, green, pink) appeared on the left side... I purchased a new one but they sent me a glossy one by mistake...
"O.K" I thought and replaced the screen but the new one is so dark to see...Almost black... I replaced it again with the old one but there's still 1/3 black plus the vertical lines... Finally, When I close and open the glossy screen while the laptop is on I can hear a hiss (white high frequency noise) coming from the bottom of the lcd screen... Not, sure if that noise with a small duration (1-2sec) comes from the inverter or from the back light...
Is the new screen damaged and the old two? Does the new screen need different voltage (the glossy one)? Is the inverter dead? Is it time to throw my laptop of the window?

THANKS!!!

- Thanks for reply... So, can I interchange the backlight from the matte to the glossy one? Matte screen is LP171WX2 and the glossy one is LP171WP4... Is there any way to find out backlight compatibility? It will be time consuming to send the screen back to the US from Greece and wait it to return... Sure, "a learning experience"... Hope that's the worst damage my laptop could have... Thanks!

- OK... Fixed! I've taken the backlight from the old LCD and replaced it with the one from the new and everything works just fine... A new screen with non-working backlight. Has that happened to anyone else?

The old screen has a screen issue, then replacement appears to have a bad backlight. If possible, RMA the replacement, if bought as is, well, a learning experience. With Portable prices starting in the $400's I'd say it is time to cut your losses and put your money toward a new system.
