Sounds like a disk error. It is possible the Hard Drive is failing, also possible that the recovery discs are scratched/dirty. If possible, run diagnostics on the HDD from the BIOS

Where can i get recover disk for my laptop i have a compak it said bootmgr is missing where can i get one or how you burn one on other laptop acer

@ cherylschlei

Compaq laptops have a built-in recovery mode on the system wherein you don't need to use a disc to restore it to factory default. The hotkey for the recovery is the F10 key. After you press the power button, you need to simultaneously press the F10 key to start system recovery. If this one won't work for you, you need to order the recovery discs from Compaq at 1- 800-652-6672. If you're still under warranty, they'll give it to you for free.

Cheers

If you purchased it new, you can probably get a recovery disk from HP.  HP usually puts a recovery partition on one part of the disk, but if your utility program wiped that out, then you will need help from HP directly.
You can try HP's website by starting here: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-001&h_query=pavilion+dv6000&submit=Go+%BB

The following discusses ordering a recovery disk: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=1842155&rule=21883&lang=en

If the recovery parition is still intact, you might be able to recover based on this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&rule=21883&product=1842155&docname=c00809678#RecoverOS

Restore the PC to its original condition with the HP Recovery Manager if Windows Vista is not accessible If the PC cannot launch into Windows, it may still be possible to use the HP Recovery Manager on the hard drive to restore the computer to its original operating condition by first pressing the Power button to start the PC, and then pressing the F11 key to start the HP Recovery Manager. NOTE: Depending on the BIOS version, your computer may display multiple prompts during startup including F11 to start System Recovery. Pressing the F11 key on a computer with an HP factory image will start System Recovery even if the prompt is not displayed.
  • If the HP Recovery Manager can access the hard drive, a prompt is displayed to backup the user files before beginning the recovery. Follow any on-screen instructions.
  • If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix any system errors, use the set of recovery discs to recover the hard drive to its original condition.

Start up problem with HP laptop.

Try to read this link:

Try the "Recovering from the recovery disks" section but it only works if you have a special partition that cannot be re-format/re-partitioned inside called "EISA partition". all your data will be gone though.

Need 25-character Vista key to buy backups from MS!

Hello John,

Unfortunately none of the PC manufacturers, with the exception of Toshiba and Dell, ship with recovery disks anymore. Instead, you have the option to create recovery disks after you purchase the computer. HP for example, used 3 DVD-R's to create recovery disks. And when you use those discs to recover your system it will revert it back to the way it was when you purchased it. So unfortauntely, the only way to get a set of recovery discs is to purchase them from HP. They cost about $30 on average. And unless you want to just purchase a new full copy of windows, purchasing the recovery discs are the only way to recover your system... legally.

To order HP's discs, just go to their support site at www.hp.com and search for your model number. It will then give you the instructions on how to order your specific discs.
