Make sure you uninstall properly. unplug the printer usb cable and turn off the printer. Control panel/ add remove progs. Remove the lexmark software. Restart your computer. Install the software for the printer again, plug in the usb. Windows should see the printer and will ask you for the software if it can't find it. Point to it and it should work. If that doesn't work go to the device manager and install the drivers. If that doesn't work , go to the control panel and printers, make sure you don't have another printer installed and selected as the primary at the moment. This should all work if your printer is o.k. If not, the usb cable , swap it for another to test it.

Sounds like your cable is bad or the printer itself is malfunctioning. You may be able to uninstall it and find a more updated/better driver then reinstall it.Use a registry cleaning software first such as CCCleaner etc.to clear references in the registry and to remove any temporary files used with your previous attempts at the install.Restart you machine then try the reinstall. If after your attempt to reinstall fails again, you should consider (malfunctioning port, bad connection cable or the printer itself is defective.Hope this helps........Lee

My windows xp was reloaded and now when rehooking up my 7200 all in one, its not working. All wires are connected, original installation disk was used.

Did you install the printer software and drivers before you connected the printer to the computer by a USB cable? Uninstall any drivers that have already been installed then restart. You can get the drivers again from the web site, http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers . Wait until the software asks you to connect to the printer before connecting the USB cable. If you are connecting to a router for an ethernet connection, then that can be cabled together before installing the software.

If the drivers were installed correctly, start diagnosing a problem with the cables. Try new cables, changing ports, and a known working device on the port. When you reinstalled XP, did you include the motherboard drivers specific to your machine (that will have the USB and ethernet drivers)? If you missed those steps, you may need to uninstall the printer before doing that update and then restart.

I hope this helps.

Scanning

Hi saly_60,

You can try the following steps to resolve the issue:

moz-screenshot-5.png
1. Connect the USB cable directly to a USB port on the computer Ifyou are connecting the device through a USB hub* or other USB device, disconnect it and try connecting directly to a USB port on thecomputer. If successful, the problem may have been with the device.
*Somescanners are powered by the USB connection. This is why connecting thescanner through another device, such as a USB hub, may prevent thescanner from communicating properly with the computer.

2. Check USB Connections Youshould disconnect and reconnect the USB cable at both ends to ensurethere is a secure connection on the device side as well as the computerside. It may also be necessary to try a different USB port on thecomputer. Additionally, you may need to disconnect other USB devices, temporarily, in order to determine if a conflict exists. .
  1. Disconnectone end of the cable and then reseat it ensuring the cable is firmlyseated into the USB port. If the USB cable is plugged into a hubinstead of directly into the computer, try connecting the USB cabledirectly into the computer.

  2. Repeat step one to reseat the cable on the other end.

  3. If there is still no communication, then it may be necessary to try a different USB cable or a different port on the computer.

  4. Make sure the correct USB cable type is being used.

3. A device attached to the computer is blocking communication If you have more than one device connected to your computer, thenit is possible that some other device is blocking proper communication.
  1. Check to see if there are any devices (other than USB keyboards or mice) connected to the computer.

  2. Disconnect the device(s) and restart the computer.

  3. Once the computer has restarted, attempt your process again.

4. Press the ON/OFF button to power on the device. The device has an <ON/OFF> button.
  1. Connect the power cord from the device to the electrical source.

  2. Press the <ON/OFF> button.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting a job request or completing installation.

5. USBSCAN.SYS USBSCAN.SYS is a Windows system fileand required by the scan driver. If the system file is missing, anerror message will appear while installing the scan driver or willappear when attempting to scan. Search for this file and direct theinstallation to the appropriate path.
