Question about Lexmark X4270 Printer

1 Answer

I have a lexmark X4270 fax machine, and I have just got a new black ink cartridge. The old one was a lexmark 71 the man at Quill said to get a lexmark 75 hi-yield. so I did my machine keeps saying black ink cartridge missing, so I called quill they sent me a new one and it is doing the same thing. I have unplugged it and answered the questions and it is stillsaying the black ink cartrige is missing. I can put the old one back in and it doesn't say that.

Did Quill sell you a "OEM" (Original Manufacturer's Equipment) or a cartridge a third party cartridge?

If it is a third party ink or cartridge, then that's your problem. Lexmark does not condone the use of third party ink or cartridges. This is considered to be product tampering by Lexmark and they will void the printer warranty if damage results from the use of these type cartridges.

I do apologize for the bad news, but I do ask that you do not shoot the messenger. :-)

Well both the #71 and #75 cartridges are for use in the X4270 printer.

I suggest you call Lexmark Technical Support and tell them you have a defective cartridge and request a warranty replacement.

I have error 1200 on my lexmark x4270 fax machine after installing new black cartridge.

The 1200 error code indicates that the cartridge carrier has stalled. It could be due to the new black cartridge installed in the printer. Make sure you are using the correct version of black cartridge for your model and it's properly inserted in the cartridge carrier.
To remedy the problem, try to remove the black cartridge from the carrier > close the cover > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it > when the printer turns on, re-insert the new black cartridge > check for any errors. If problem continues, try to insert a different known working black cartridge to determine if the new one is faulty.

Does your unit have a printhead cleaning manager. Do this a few times. Check to see if you have to reset ink levels too.
