Sounds like its hanging on something, with the laptop turned off, take out the hard drive and then put it back into its slot. Turn the laptop back on and see if goes past the logo screen.

    Hi Dennis,

I see you gave me 2 thumbs but left no comments. Was my solution wrong? Just too late? Or what?

    Thanks, Jim

OK either your hard dive has crashed or stopped working altogether.

When you hit f2 look for basic settings or something like that and see if
you can see your HDD listing. Then post again.

This option is changeable at the BIOS configuration. You should be able to see the key to go in Bios at your initial boot usually Esc, F1 or DEL.

Whenever I start my computer, it shows the Sony Vaio logo and right after that my computer starts beeping while staying at this logo. Sometimes it starts with windows restore and then it froze there and...

The beeps are a code to let you know what failed during the Power On Self Test (POST)

Count the beeps - and whether long or short. (Like 3 longs and 2 short, etc)

Go online to the Soony web site, or search for Sony POST codes. A list of codes will tell you what is failing - such as ram - or hard drive, etc. I suspect the latter.

Hi, im just asking on how to do recovery for my sony vaio pcg-481p model

Put the recovery DVD in the drive, shut the computer off and turn it on again. When the VAIO logo is on the screen, quickly press [ESC] and select the DVD Drive as the booting device.

If you didn't make the recovery DVD's when prompted by the OS when you bought the computer, you'll have to order them from sony and they're expensive.
