Hi it is common on range rovers that the flywheel flex plate cracks or brakes up, this in turn damages the crank sensor causing the engine to stop. I have had more than one car with this same fault.
Remove and inspect crank sensor for damage10 mins job just above the sump on left side of car from underneath.
Thanks rob

On my 01 range rover p38 diesel when I start the car abs light comes on but when I am driving it goes off is this normal

It is normal, but if it remains on for more than one minute, verify your brake fluid level in the reservoir.

After driving 10 minutes my 01 discovery engine quit, m s light flashes, engine turn over, not start. after cool down it will start and the same thing happens again

One thing I would do is to remove the thermostat. It is located in the plastic connector below& left of the radiator. There are three hoses going into it. I personally drilled the caps so the Rover cannot overheat. The gauge inside truck cannot be trusted as the heat range is too wide for normal.. Good Luck!

Engine dies

if it shuts off while driving down the road. and restarts after 10 minutes, its usually a bad crank sensor that does this. it messes up timing and shuts off fuel supply.

WONT RESTART AFTER SHORT TRIPS AND ENGINE HEATS TO NORMAL

If you can duplicate the event in your driveway, you can check fuel pressure and spark at the plugs when it won't start to narrow down the possible causes.

Range Rover p38 stalls when hot only starts again when cooled down

Hi,

We have taken the following actions to correct the problem (with no success): 1) replaced fuel pump (I believe unnecesarily) 2) replaced temperature probe on top of engine block (also no apparent impact on problem) 3) repaired leaking o-rings for heater inside vehicle (coolant was leaking onto electrical connectors - all connectors were disconnected and cleaned, reconnected) 4) replaced battery I don't know if there is an automatic theft shut-off on these cars that disables the car after a short drive - I haven't seen any definitive literature on this.

Would love to know if you have had success - [email protected]

I was driving my97 rangerover and came to a stop light and upon leaving thestop it wouldnt move dash computer says transfer case in neuteral i tried to put it in park and it made a sound as if it was not...

Hello Joey... Have you ever put your Rover into Low range? You might have accidentally bumped the shifter to the right and it started to select Low range, but it is in Neutral because the Low shift was interrupted. To correct this, with the engine off, but with the key on, select Neutral first. Then start selecting Low by putting pressure on the shifter towards the right(to engage low, the second set of gear/numbers). Keep pressure on the shifter until the dash shows a Low range light and is no longer beeping...now you are in Low Range. Next try to select High range by putting slight leftward pressure on the shifter. Keep pressure on it toward the left until it quits beeping and no longer has any gearbox, neutral, or low range lights (20-30 secs Max each way/Range, etc.) Then select park and try restarting the engine, if you hear any funky/grinding sounds shut it down and repeat above process. It should work on the first try, however, You may Try it a few times before giving up on it if you never use low range. The Low range shift solenoid is probably shot if you cannot get it back into High Range, etc. Good Luck, Brian

2001 Range Rover Leftside Parking lights will not cut off

You probably have a problem with your BECM (Body Control Module) under the passenger front seat. This is one symptom of a possible failure here. If everything else works properly (mirros, windows) and no other trouble lights are on it will not hurt to keep driving it. Proper physcial diagnosis should be done though by a knowledgeable technician to determine the cause of the fault before replacing parts. A BECM replacement would cost around $700 if that is what it is.

1989 Range Rover,

Stalls when you come to a stop warm?? If this is the case and it restarts after a few minutes then you need to replace the Pick-up and amplifier on the distributor.
Hope this helps
