Change of Message Set Up Msgs. were deleated yesterday.
I will try to explain what I think is wrong with my computer. Sometime ago, I was messing around, and changed the Message system which I had before; the one now does not have a back arrow at the top left hand side; also it doesn't have Forward or Compose. It's pink (which means I made it that way) I want it the way it was before.... Yesterday I tried to erase some of the older e-mails, as it was almost 3,000 on it, and I hit Control Delete, thinking it would just delete a page, and it deleated everything............... Also, this new kind of Yahoo e-mail is devided in half, I want the kind I had before. All of this is good and kind, but I know it will cost alot, so I won't be able to afford it; I'm on unemployment. So if any generous soul would try to tell me what to do, I will. Thanks and God Bless! Mary Helen

I started in electronics 33 years ago and my first job was in LMR;s (land mobile radios). I know they have changed a lot since then but the basic transmitting structure will always be the same. It sounds like something that I have never seen but one or two go bad but on these occasions the Crystal has changed frequency. This is your Local Oscillator and will cause your superheterodyne to run at a different frequency. It would be a constant frequency and explain the one channel. I know if the wrong crystal is put in one and is close enough to even run it can be several channels off. Check this out it is a little far fetched because as I said earlier these things seldom go bad but you never know. If it is a crystal then when you reset it it would reset to the same frequency that it has changed to. It is still working but just off frequency. Let me know how it turns out.
Activate the "channel monitor" button on one radio while talking on the other and see if you can hear the voice. Then reverse the procedure: talk on the first one while holding the monitor button on the other one. If both radios work with the monitor button held down but will not work without then the CTCSS or CDCSS squelch codes aren't set to the same tone or digital frequency or code. Consult the manual for more information.
If the interface cable has a serial port connector, and you need to use a USB --> Serial Port adapter to connect to your computer; it may be the source of the problem. The cheaper USB --> Serial adapters have issues with timings that the serial port protocols rely on. You may have luck by reducing the speed of the serial port to something like 19200, 14400, 9600, 4800 or even as low as 2400 baud. Make sure that the adapter name (COM1, AUX1, COM2, AUX2 , etc.) is the SAME one you're telling the program to use to access the radio's memory and the port's parity, number of stop bits and error checking type match the program.
Additionally, different radio manufacturers use different methods to set the radio's memory up to be read and / or written. Make sure the radio is ready to be read and the program is trying to read - not write (and vice versa).
If you're still having issues, please reply and provide the radio brand and model, interface cables and adapters, and program software and computer Operating System.
Could be one of several things. If you are using a USB cable this should not happen, but if you are using the computer's serial port you might have the programmer set up for the wrong com port. The com ports can be numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. with 1 or 4 being the most common. Look through the setup menu for the program and find the place where the com port gets selected.
