Question about GPS

3 Answers

I just picked up a refurbished 3500C direct from Lowrance - my old one croaked, and can't get it to read my old MMC card, Code US901XL3, East Great Lakes. How do I activate it? I am sure it is a simple solution. but I admit that I am somewhat technically challenged.

I shouldn't have to reformat the MMC card - that's the way I bought it, and it worked in the old unit that Lowrance replaced

Not sure if you got my last comment - I hit back and lost you. Anyway, the MMC card was purchased, and worked great on my old unit. However, a friend installed it, and he is no longer around.

Looking at their instructions, it should be plug and play, but isn't. When I try to force the download to the unit, nothing happens.

Hi,

My brother had a similar problem, that particular problem was solved by NOT running the GPSinfo software. The 3500C appears to need exclusive use of one particular port and if more than one bit of software (eg GPSinfo and your navigation software) tries to use the same port simultaneously then things don't work properly.

In order to get things to work, I found that I had to shut everything down and then open up the navigation software again (and WITHOUT opening GPSinfo) and direct the navigation software to the same port as the GPSinfo had been using.

I'm finding that the 3500C causes from time to time my PDA to 'reboot' or to close down my navigation software.

The instructions with the 3500C are not particularly helpful.

I don't think that can be done, you have format the MMC card the load the new data back again.

Still i have you to check with the lowrance support

Thanks

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

The Lowrance 3500C has a 1 GB capability. Does that mean I must purchase a 1 GB SD card for it? Can't find anything smaller than a 2 GB SD card, but will a 2 GB card cause problems?

No, this means the internal memory size is 1 GB. If this unit accepts SD cards, you can increase the map capacity. 2GB SD cards should work properly in the unit.

Need map updates for GPS

Dependant on the type of unit you have, you can order MMC or SD cards from several companies. I have used Navionics with much success. They have a buy-back program where you can get a discount towards the latest cards when you turn in your old ones. Also, if you have a memory card device, you can access tons of lakes directly from the Lowrance website. Then save to acard and load into you boats unit.
