I can not play back any of my tapes on my DCR-TRV240 Keep getting different C:31:23 errors

This is a fault in the tape transport system can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly, a dislodged pinch roller or a defective clutch in the take-up spool and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

How do you switch tape speeds to LP on a Sony Handy cam TRV 240

You can set tape speed SP or LP in record mode only and can not change it in playback mode.
To set tape speed, turn camcorder in camera mode and go to Menu and set SP or LP in record speed option.

I'm only getting a blue screen when trying to play back tapes on my Sony TRV240. What do I do to see my video?

Try running a Sony 8mm cleaning cassette in the machine according to the directions that come with it. If that is unsuccessful have the heads and tape path professionally checked and cleaned.
The worst case scenario is that the unit may have a tape path fault requiring repairs which can range from relatively minor (reasonable cost) to major (prohibitive cost). RHN

the camera has been dropped
or pressed by a heavy object or person

open the door
put down on the tape
move back and forth with significant pressure
caring not to destroy the eject lock mechanism

C:32:11 message flashes, cassette eject won't work, camera doesn't work

Just had this problem myself... called Sony. Here is what I did to fix this:

1. Turn off power
2. Open the LCD Display
3. Press "Reset" with paperclip/pen
4. Unplug ANY wires connected to the camcorder
5. Eject battery
6. Plug in DC charger
7. Power on
8. Attempt to eject tape
9. At this point, the metal tape holder comes out but refuses to open... slightly "close" the portion of the camcorder that has the button to eject the tape, and then open it fully again (you'll hear a click, this signals the device that the 'hatch' is open and to eject).
10. The metal door *should* pop out and allow you to withdraw the tape.

I've tried 4 different cassettes and about 2 seconds after hitting play, I get the error every time... my solution: Not going to try to play my tapes on the camcorder anymore... will find another player to play Hi8 MP cassettes. Unknown if able to record to tape as of yet.
