Question about RCA P52926 52" Rear Projection Television

3 Answers

Our 1991 RCA projection TV P52150CP started being hazy blue when first turned on then it gradually would become mostly normal screen. Today the whole screen is a blue haze. You can see the picture sort of but all through this blue fog or hazy brightness. Is it a filter? Or have the other color bulbs burned out?

One thing that you might check seeing that this set is so old, is the fluid in the tubes. Especially the blue one. The cooling fluid should look clear, if it looks cloudy that could be your problem. There are kits you can buy to change the fluid out.

Just click below for convergence repair kit;

http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/

Double images and colors are blurry .Blue,red and yellow wave coming up from the bottom of the screen on the lower left and fuzzy images this is a symptom is for busted convergence IC,you must replaced this IC in order that will works better again.STK 392-xxx ICs and it's associated resistor,this resistor automatically change value,can caused truoble even though you change the ICs.If you bring this to a service center they cost you $600 to $700,but if you buy the repair kit you can save more,don't wory it is very easy because there is intallation guide including in the repair kit. Feel free to ask whatever the result... click the link for sample picture guide step by step installation;

Hope this may help;

Most likely it is the Blue CRT Driver Board or the Blue CRT failing. There is no quick way to varify unless you call a repairman out to see.
Hope this Helps,

When I first turn on the Toshiba projection tv the color has a strong red hue to it which clears up gradually

I would suggest when turning set on cold---turn color all the way off and examine screen as set warms up---if red to some degree but gradually becomes black and white the issue is either a "touchy" red screen control on the screen/focus block or a problem on the circuit board plugged to the bottom of the red tube.

I guess the real question is how long until it is normal?

When i turn on my tv i can hear the sounds but my whole screen is blue

do you see thin curved blue lines going from bottomto top of screen. If so its most likley a blue CRT drive board issue. If its a solid blue it could be a small signal board issue.

sounds like the Blue CRT drive has an issue which causes the blue to become dominate thereby limiting the red and Green CRTs from projecting normally. Is your screen full of blue?

I have a blue streak on the left side of my Hitachi ultravision digital TV. This streak is not solid but hazy and irregular in size.

projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hi

First check whether all the cables from your dishnetwork are fine and connected firmly.If yes then you'll need to pull off the front of the tv, behind the speaker grill there would be a panel. Remove the panel and check for a black box hanging over there. It has 6 controls on it, 3 are marked as focus and 3 as screen. You'll need to adjust the screen. If you turn these too high you can damage a tube. so we are doing real small adjustments. Turn the color off on the tv and adjust the red, blue & green controls up till you get a fine picture. Also adjust the focus until you get a clear picture.

And, if it doesn't resolve your issue then it is an intermittant blue picture tube, a bad blue driver transistor on the CRT board, a bad connection on the blue crt board, or a problem in the RGB coming from the video jungle IC. A set this age, most likely will run you about 300 to 500 bucks to have this problem fixed, unless it is the picture tube.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Blue screen

The blue picture tube has gone bad. Sadly they are no longer availible for that unit. But the blue tube assembly can be sent back to a company called Video Display. They rebuild the tube for a very reasonable price. The hitch is that it takes a professional tv tech to reinstall and align the rebuilt tube. Most respectable shops will do this work but the repair is spendy. Usually around $450 to $500 or more.
