Question about Washing Machines

2 Answers

A pecan tree right outside our house was struck by lightning and it knocked the power off to several appliances. We flipped the circuits breakers back on. We had to have a part replaced on the ac/furnace. But what is strange to us, is the washing machine power works, but there is no water flowing into the machine. I disconnected the supply lines and water is coming through to them, so it's in the machine. I noticed there is a fuse in the control panel when I opened it. Could that be the problem, or is it in the water valve itself?

There is a solenoid on the left side of the motor as you look underneath. That is what operates the pump flapper. It has a tendency to swell and not activate the flapper. If this is working properly there could be a plugged hose.

Hi, Test the fuse for continuity. If it checks out ok, it is probably the inlet valve. Does everything else work?
If the inlet valve is easy to get to, you can use a voltage meter and test the valve to see if they are getting 120V.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

I have a Vizio model E601I-A3, lightning struck outside my house and fried some of my electronics, despite everything being plugged into a surge protector, anyway it's getting power but I have no picture...

Replace the TV as it has been damaged by a power surge and the faults will be recurring.
A home surge protector will do nothing to break the power of lightning.

Controller not working

The rinnai is a computer that heats water. It is not ordinary water heater most people are familiar with, and repairs are not do-it-yourself, requiring a trained technician qualified in that brand who can diagnose both computer and water heater problems and plumbing problems.
Call rinnai for recommended local technician. Click on support tab. Note their webpage is very short on repair details, unlike companies that sell tank-type heaters... because tankless units are not do-it-yourself.
http://www.rinnai.us/tankless-water-heater
Problem might be simple blown glass fuse on circuit board or complete failure of computer and sensors.
Here is page written for Rheem tankless, that explains general complexity of tankless computers, and showing required maintenance, such as deliming each year:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html
To save problems with tankless computers plus anticipated expense of maintenance and repairs, I recommend homeowner install tank-type gas water heater:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-gas-water-heater.html
Also install one-time-use whole house surge protector, and install grounding rods to prevent further damage... lightning frequently likes the same places over and again:

We had a near lightning strike and now my tv (sanyo model ht27744)doesn't want to come on.

Lightening may have caused a surge on your power lines to the house and to the outlet the TV was on.
Do other things work on that outlet? If not you tripped a power breaker. If they do work check this.
Unplug the TV for 2 min or more and plug back in.
Try bypassing your surge protector you had it plugged into. It could have died when the lightening struck.
(no surge protector?) Bet you'll buy one for your next TV.
Look for 3000 joules and up rating for a surge protector and insure it has protection for a cable/antenna input too.
If this doesn't work the TV may be fried or internal fuse blown.
Time to take it to a repair shop or depending on it's age (5 years+) it may be time to buy a new TV and surge protector.
Near Lightening strikes can effect appliances from several inputs that could be affected from outside like Power, Cable, Antennas, Phone Lines that come into your house.

Washing machine causing power failure in whole

Best answer to this is the circuit outlet is connected to is overloaded < to many items are plugged into it > could be 15-20 watt breaker and usage amounts to more than wattage allowence. If you can lighten the load on circuit by removing things < t.v.,appliances,lights,etc.> from the other outlets that are affected < shutting down when breaker trips > then you can compromise and use washer any time. The other suggestion is to dedicate a breaker to washer, < by adding breaker and wiring to outlet for washer >.
