SOURCE: need to tighten loose agitator on whirlpool

You need to pop the cap off the center post of the agitator, followed by removing the plastic cap and o-ring inside. The agititator bolt is located underneath. Tighten with (I believe) a 9/16 socket with ratchet. Tighten until snug. Do not overtighten as this can restrict agitator motion and may crack it.

Now, if you talking about the upper portion (auger) of the agitator slipping, you will need to replace the agitator dogs. The following link explains:

The dogs are small plastic teeth that are located under the center post cap used to grip the auger as it turns. They do wear out periodically and require replacement. If you go to and type in you model number you can view them as item number 10 under the "Agitator, Basket & Tub" section. You can use the part number I provided in the link, or use the Whirpool part number on the website. Both numbers cross reference to the same part. A very inexpensive fix...

If you still need assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

SOURCE: wash tub overfilling on whirlpool washing machine

Hello GPMill, Based on you problem analysis, you have a faulty water level switch and that needs to be replaced to get your washer to only fill to the level selected on the control panel.

The replacement part is #3366846 and it usually is priced at aournd $30 whether you get it online or at your local appliance dealer.

Here's the line drawing/diagram that shows the part and where it's located. This is a relatively easy repair for a homeowner to do themselves, provided you take your time and unplug the washer from the electric outlet an turn off the incoming water supply lines.

The fill valve is Item #12 on the drawing and is connected to the top control panel. To get to the control you need to remove the screws at the top and back of the backsplash control panel and also pull the front knob off the stem of the valve.

Once you've done that, you'll be able to get at the screws that hold the valve onto the washer's control panel. Simply unplug the wiring harness plug that goes to the valve and replace it with the new one, reinstalling the wiring harness plug and mounting screws and the knob.

It should take you around 30-45 minutes, but allow for double that time just to be certain. I also suggest that if you're a first timer DIY'er, take some pictures (use your digital camera or phone) of the valve and how it's installed before you begin the removal process to provide you some pictures to refer back to, in case you need them.

If your water level valve has a small hose attached to it (some version did), make sure that the hose is clear of any obstructions too, as this can affect the valve from working properly.

By doing these minor repairs, you can easily extend the working life of your appliance for many years before you need to replace them.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Check the washer tub gasket seal.. Normally located under the base of the tub. May just need to tighten any bolts that are loose around the gasket if there is one.

Whirlpool Stylemaster 4217141 tub not moving wash/spin cycles

Sounds like the drive belt is broken or very loose. Take off the back and check the belt. If loose or missing, tighten or replace. This is usually done by loosening the motor support bolts and moving the motor until the belt is tight, then re-tighten the bolts. Replace belt in the same way.

Loose agitator

Remove the center dispenser. Under the dispenser is a plastic cap with a pull handle on it. Pull the cap straight up and you will find a mounting bolt underneath. Using a socket and ratchet, tighten the bolt snug. DO NOT overtighten as this may cause damage to the agitator. If you go to and type in your model number, there is an excellent exploded view diagram of the agitator components under the "Agitator, Basket and Tub" heading. If you still require assistance, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
