Question about Garden

1 Answer

I purchased a new Wood's 42 C-6 Rotary Mower, replacing the one that was on it, back in 2006. Since, I have had to replace the overrunning clutch part's four time's now. I used to mow over small tree's with this tractor when I was a kid, and never had to replace any clutch part's at all. Now, with this new mower, I hit a mole hill and it round's off the teeth to where they wont engage. I have taken it apart, just like it came apart, and have the diagram, for back up. Any suggestion's would be greatly appreciated, this last purchase was over $170.00 for all the part's..... thank's Chris A Coffman

I have had exactly the same problem having fixed the clutch about 4 times now. I run this on a 1947 International Harvester Cub tractor mounted underneath Should I be buying a new Woods belly mount mower or should I get it fixed once again I agree that I used to be able to cut small trees with it but now, the slightest little resistance and it fails

Hey Chris..my name is Keith..and i restore tractors..and im not sure of what kind of tractor you have and what year it is....but from reading what you have wrote..i have a few ideas..but i might not be correct..so...thsi is what i know..some tractors came out with a 1 1/8" PTO shaft..some had a 1 3/8" PTO shaft..so im guessin that you bought the wrong size overrun clutch.. or... your PTO shaft splines (comming out of the tractor) are worn ..and if i come across a bad overrun clutch..i scrap it and buy a new one..the ones for my tractors only cost about 50 dollars..so..i hope this has helped..if not..write me back and we will dig a little deeper

I need to know how to replace clutch cable

Hi You have to look under the tractor and look at the linkages. Press the pedal and watch what moves and where it goes to. You may have to pull off a back wheel. If you have a new one already it will give you a better Idea on how it hooks up. Usually you should just have to look at the original setup to figure it out.

HEAVY VIBRATION OF MOWER DECK (CRAFTSMAN17.5 HORSE TRACTOR?)

Even new blades can be out of balance, but my guess would be either the other blade spindle, or the tensioner pulley bearing.

Mower deck clutch cable removal (model 917.28722). Detail provided in manual does not seem to match product. Need to remove this in order to remove deck and replace belt. Belt has squealed since new.

You should not need to remove the deck or the clutch cable just to change the belt.

  • ensure mower clutch lever is in the off position
  • lift the front of the tractor approx 24 or more inches.
  • lower the mower deck as far as it will go
  • locate & remove the cotter pin from the right (discharge) side mower lift arm where it attaches to the rear of the mower
  • release the lift arm from the mower deck to allow it to drop (it will hang from the other 3 points)
You should now have plenty of clearance to change the belt. Remove the belt from the engine pulley first and replace the new belt on the engine pulley last that will make it easier to change the belt.

If this is helpful please vote yes, Thank You!!

Starter motor problem solenoid is throwing starter gear onto clutch housing, engine not turning but can hear starter motor still turning, engine not siezed as can still be turned over by hand

From what you're describing, I would say that the "over running clutch" or starter clutch is bad in your starter. The part cost about $125 or so and can be replaced by disassembling your starter.

Now, if you have the ability to remove the starter, disassemble it, and get it back on your bike, you can save some money. But, it you're going to have to pay someone to do it, you'd probably be better off to just purchase a new starter. The reason is the labor time involved in the disassembly of the starter and repairing it is so much longer than simply replacing the starter.

If you're going to have someone else do the job, ask them to price it out both ways, with a new starter and rebuilding yours.

Good Luck

Sounds like clutch needs adjustment. If you just bought it new, recommend you call store where purchased for help.

Craftsman 42 inch deck won't run

Check proper belt routing. These models are a little tricky. Also check tensioner spring.

Changing the starter

INSPECT OVERRUNNING CLUTCH 1. Slide the overrunning clutch along the shaft. Replace it if does not slide smoothly. 2. Rotate the overrunning clutch (A) both ways. Does it lock in one direction and rotate smoothly in reverse? If it does not lock in either direction or it locks in both directions, replace it. 299a793.gif 3. If the starter driver gear (B) is worn or damaged, replace the overrunning clutch assembly: the gear is not available separately. Check the condition of the flywheel or torque converter ring gear if the starter drive gear teeth are damaged.
CLEANING 1. Do not immerse parts in cleaning solvent. Immersing the yoke assembly and/or armature will damage the insulation. Wipe these parts with a cloth only. 2. Do not immerse the drive unit in cleaning solvent. The overrun clutch is pre-lubricated at the factory and solvent will wash lubrication from the clutch. 3. The drive unit may be cleaned with a brush moistened with cleaning solvent and wiped dry with a cloth. findme(''); findme(''); findme(''); 7d082d0.gif
