If it is filling even with the machine turned off the water valve is stuck and has to be replaced. If it fills constantly when used the pressure switch hose could be blocked or the pressure switch is bad.

Why is there Rust from tub spout and shower head

When you turn off faucets other than your tub or shower you will note that the water stops fairly abruptly. Not so with a shower head or tub spout. Some water always dribbles out even after you have turned it off. This small amount of water then evaporates leaving behind the iron that was dissolved in your water. This also happens if any faucet has a slow drip. There are products that will easily remove the rust stains. CLR, Iron Out, or Iron Ike are all good products that will remove the stain. Available at hardware stores, plumbing supply houses, and, ugh, Home Depot or Lowes. Please support your local business owners by purchasing there.

Your pressure switch stops the water and allows it to start the next cycle. It's a switch either in the control panel or at the top of the tub with a small tube connected to it which goes down between the inner and outer tub. As the water level increases the air in the tube is compressed until there is enough pressure to make the switch stopping the water from filling. This tube can get clogged and the switch won't work. Remove the tube and clean it out. Blowing on the tube when it's still connected to the switch will make the switch if it's working and clear.

Water inlet valve

If it fills with water and starts the cycle and the water keeps running in then your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is sticking

My roper washing machine wont stop filling, water just keeps running until it runs over the top of tub and onto floor. I was just wondering if the switch controls the water level of is there something on...

If when you shut off or unplug the machine, the water stops response #1 is correct.
If shutting it off or unplgging it, doesn't work and you have to shut the water off at the shut off valves, the dual water valve is bad.

Leveling switch for water amount is wrong tub over flows

Without a brand or model number this will be very general.

If the machine will stop filling when you turn off the power to it:
Remove the tube which runs from the lower area of the tub up towards the water level switch. Cut off about two inches, or clean out the build up of gunk inside the tub end of the tube and poke a wire into the tub side of where it came off of to clean that out too. In the future, every few months run a load with no clothes, the hottest water your machine delivers, lowest water level, with several cups of regular liquid bleach added. This will help prevent the gunk from building up again.

If turning off power to the machine does not stop water from filling: Replace inlet water valve which is not sealing off completely

you may have blockage in the drain pipe several feet from washer. if you can run spin cycle with hose in different location ex. tub, sink or outdoors. if this works run long snake down washer drain pipe to clean gypsum residual.

Washer overflowing from the tub

There's an air tube connected to the back of the water level switch, If that is kinked/pinched/crimped/disconnected or has a hole in it... the pressure switch will "think" there's no water in the tub and thus continue to fill it. Access your control panel and verify your air tube connection @ the level switch.
