    Thanks for replying, argentum86, but we have tried that already. The camera seems totally dead :-(

    Thanks photofile, I tried it but it didn't work. Think the camera is well and truly dead :(

Hi Scififan;

My camera's battery compartment door does not close tightly causing problems that you describe. If I firmly press on the door as I'm turning on the camera, it works. I've discovered that one of the clips on the door is broken.

Hope this helps.

Try reseting the configurations. It has a small hole in the front of the cammera you can put a pencil on it when you start it up. I had some trouble to start it once, but it shows something on the LCD and the green light blinks. If thats your problem the pencil in the hole will fix it.

Hey man you don't have to replace that camera because I think I have you solution. The same thing happened to my camera. The reason was because a wire came off the main hard drive inside the camera. After that it was working like it was brand new.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

Canon PowerShot G9 stopped working this morning. It simply will not switch on. I charged batteries, tried another battery pack. Nothing happened. I hope you can help. I've only had the camera two...

A common problem on the G9 is they get a loose screw inside and often it renders the camera useless with no power after that common short. There's a site you can get these fixed very reasonably and they include the correction to those internal screws so it won't keep happening. The site is: www.camerasandparts.com The do superb work on the canons for about half of what canon wants to fix these cameras. Good luck with the problem on yours.

Check the memory card or battery door for the tab that activates the cut out switch. It ,or the switch, may have sustained damage. I'm not 100% on this model but if it's like the S5700/ S5800 models then the memory card door has a tab for the cut out switch to prevent card removal whist powered up.

Frozen in the boot zone

I just had the same problem and "fixed" it. I read the other solutions and while the camera was on I gently inserted a tiny probe in the hole on the front of the camera, then [camera is still on] I reset the camera with the same probe on the reset hole in the back of the camera.

This fixed the problem immediately. I know the questions were years ago but there is no Concord site now and I thought I would help.

My theory on how the camera got that way is that I might of had my finger over the lens while powering up and prevented it from coming out - maybe there is a "trip" switch to keep the little motor from burning up in that situation and you reset the switch thru the front hole? Anyway that worked for me and kept my [for years] great little camera, with lousy instructions on use, working.

Thanks to whoever runs this website saved me money $$$$$$!!!!!!
