The light on the display only works intermittently

the factory dvd decks are designed to disable the dash display when the car is running, to negate distracted driving. the factory wires the rear seat dvd displays only to work when car is running, and the dash to work only when the car is either acc, or, possibly, in park.

if the dash is intermittent, and, especially, if the dash display has some dvd video while running(or, more dangerously, when in drive) then a previous owner likely tried to bypass this safety feature by crossing wires under the dash, and did a poor job.



otherwise, lcd screens can become intermittent, in regards to powering on or off, if the backlighting regulating circuits start to fail. this would be an issue with the deck itself, and is merely due to old age (nearly 8 years)

. the hallmark of this problem would be if you were to hold a flashlight to the screen, and see a faint display,- simply lacking the florescent back-lighting.

outside LCD is bad.

have you taken out the battery and put it back in? If this helps then quickly get the numbers on the sim card. If it does not work but the key pad works you may have to do a little repairing. It is usually the flex cable that gets ripped there fore making the screen not work, Check on google for the exact part then on ebay to purchase.

First try repeatedly pressing 8 key while at Home screen to see if problem is permanent or intermittent.
Pressing a number key at Home screen will cause the phone to display 8 if any press is recoginized/dialing.

If it is intermittent, then it is likely a hardware problem. Disassemble phone to keypad/phone printed circuit interface. Clean interface with alcohol or clean pencil eraser and disconnect/reconnect any cable interfaces. This may be worth a try even if key is not intermittent.

If this doesn't work or you don't want to disassemble, you can try a phone Hard Reset. See my other solutions on how to do a Hard Reset. Basically, hold down both left and right softkeys while turning on the phone. A Reset screen will display. Note all personal apps and data you added to phone since new is lost.

the phone needs to be taking to a professional mobile service center and have the lcd replaced and the firmware reflash on the phone.

You probably have a defective flex cable... comes with the lcd screen....

This is hardware problem. You can't solve it yourself. You must go to noikia service center

first check the battery of your handset, if battery is ok, than resert u r handet but it will lost u r data

It looks like I have the same problem with my phone. I guess connection with the screen got broken in the hinge...Guys in Cingular store said that they can't fix it. I decided to buy a new phone, but now trying to figure out how to get the address book. I just posted my concern, and will hope someone will give me a suggestion. You might pay attention to it.
