I agree with Placid Cube, but he left off one part.
You need to throw the hold switch to On, then Off, then hold down the select and menu buttons. If it doesn't work, I found this sight that I was able to get a fresh battery at a good price
I'm not selling anything, I just thought it was a good back up i fthe reset didn't work.

Hold the select and menu buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo. When it returns to the main menu, plug it into your computer and restore the firmware to the latest version.

Re-sync and enjoy!

Have you tried plugging it into your computer and directly restoring the firmware from there? The issue might be that there is no firmware installer on the iPod disk, and therefore the restore (Select + Menu) doesn't work.

My apple 30GB has sad face /

Hi, you may want to try reset your iPod: 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.) 2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center. If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
Regards, Peter

1. try holding in the center and menu buttons for a few minutes/seconds and see if the apple logo pops up 2. if you have a warranty you should be able to send it back free of charge and get it fixed. 3.if you dont have the warranty i think you can send it back with a 20-40 dollar fee

My ipod 30gb shows its sick face on start up help

This is generally caused by a hardware failure. If it's under warranty, send it back to Apple. Otherwise, you need to start looking at replacing the hardware. If the screen shows a sad face, then you can assume the screen and battery are probably OK. So, the problem is probably with the hard drive or the logic board.

Ipod 30gb

Is the music in iTunes gone or just the iPod?

If the music disappeared from the iPod, you probably have 'auto sync'
checked in iTunes and there was nothing to autosync so it deleted your music.

If your music is missing from iTunes there is nothing you can do but replace it and back it up next time.

My ipod 5 gen 30GB won't turn on

First thing to try is a reset

To reset your iPod:

  • 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  • 2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

check your warranty
then here is the online service assistant

If you don't have warranty and the repairs would cost too much at apple

Hello Sofi507,

Unfortunately Geek Squad® technicians are not able to do iPod battery replacements in-store. You should take the iPod to an Apple Store for service or follow the procedure on the Apple Care Service Website:

Apple iPod Video 30GB Digital

You'll need a new mainboard. I don't think you can solder that back on easily.

Start up

my ipod does this too (you have to restart it if it's been off for about 2-3 days)

I don't believe that this is out of the ordinary or a mistake (unless mine is disfunctional too!)

I think that this is to save battery...just my guess...i think it's just the way that apple rolls...
good luck!
