Question about Troy-Bilt 4-Cycle Curve Shaft Gas String Trimmer #41ADT41C966
There are two parts to the string compartment. There is a part for the string to wrap around and a round nozzle to keep it from falling I guess. How do I take it off to replace the string. Troy Bilt TB20CS

May be air filter but sounds more like your muffler is stopped up. First take the muffler off and see if it runs better without it. If so, burn the carbon out of the muffler and clean the muffler port on the engine. If not, then remove the four screw at the very end and disassemble. The ait filter is in that area. Check the size of the line,(OD), make sure you are using the correct size, sometimes cheap line will be problematic, also, you said you are re-stringing it, try a new batch of string, the old string inside the hub can get chaffed and will stick to itself...

Hold orange spool containing string while twisting the black plastic cap in the center, counterclockwise. This retaining cap is loosely spring loaded, so watch for the spring falling out. Once this locking cap is removed, the spool pulls right off.

You probably have found the solution by now I would assume... TB won't tell you this because they want you to buy their stuff..
You probably are looking at the 0.08" diameter that's just a bit smaller than the 3/32". Hope this helps....

Probably no special tools needed. Take the starter assy off. Turn the recoil in the direction it will turn if you are pulling the rope. When it gets tight, hold it there and install the new rope. When it is installed, let go of the recoil and it will draw the rope in.
