I have exactly the same problem

I have the same problem described here.
I tried the memory in a friends computer and it works fine.
Occasionally I can get the computer working, but not for long. It then locks up with all the green lights on. Only thing top get out of this is to switch of the power supply. Then it's back to not working.

Get onto the web and go to http://www.memtest.org/

Download the Plus version burn it to a CD , make your machine boot from the CD by changing the Bios

Boot it on the Memtest disk and it will run through a series of really intensive checks on the machines memory , that will tell you what the memory is doing

Also try removing and re-seating all the connectors on the motherboard in case there is a poor connection

Try to format memory stick with the camera's facilities. Maybe the camera doesn't recognize the stick.
You can try another memory stick to know exactly what it happened.

this is a very odd problem, I have the same camera and it works fine, your best bet is to buy a usb SD memory card dongle. they are about 14 dollars, this will solve your problem with the photos, but I don't know why your camera won't work properly with the cable., have you tried it with the cable on your friends computer?

My canon sd600 says Memory card error?? any

I'm afraid that's exactly what it could be. A bad card which can't be formatted. Occasionally digital warnings can get it right, Occasionally.

Memory cards don't last forever and depending on it's use and treatment they can die sometimes somewhat prematurely. Just removing the card whilst it''s being accessed by the camera can ruin a card for good. Just check that the record inhibit tab isn't in place on the card. It's a little tab which when closed will stop the pictures stored on it from being accidently erased. Although usually the camera will say protect and not error.

I'd be inclined to try formatting the card in another camera if you can borrow one for a few minutes. Whatever you do, don't try formatting it in your computer. Or borrow a known good card and try it. If it works it would appear your card is dead.
