Pump or output hose is probably blocked or the pump impeller is broken, strip and see i'm afraid

My machine a Bosch excel vario keeps displaying E18 and flashes and keeps pipping I canot get the door open tried two washes

E18 indicates a time out draining.

I'm assuming it's stopped full of water.
Put the machine on spin only and see if it empties and spins.

After that you'll need to check it over.

It's very likely there is a blockage preventing the machine draining.

It can also be a faulty pump or control board but this is less likely.

It's a lot of work but try the following.
Check the drain hose where it connects to the house drains.
If onto a connection, take the hose off and check both for a blockage.

This is normally under the sink.

If ok, you'll need to manually remove the remaining water from the machine.

Put a shallow dish in front of the filter/pump cover. (Bottom front of the machine)

Slacken the cap a little to drain the water.

If there is a draining tube, use that to empty the water.
Tighten the cap to stop the water when you need to empty the container.
(If you pull the machine out and tilt it rearward, you can get a larger container in place for a while).

Once the machine is empty of water, take the cap off.
Clean out any debris in there.

Once cleaned out, take the laundry out of the machine.
With the cap off, put the machine on spin only. (If it resets).

Listen at the open filter to see if the pump is running.
(You should see the pump impellor rotating)
If the pump isn't running, let me know.

If the pump is running, refit the cap and try the machine again.
Good Luck

I own a lg turbo deluxe wf t7517te machine After the machine has washed the clothes it doesnt drain it Please fix my problem asap

you need to check the filter maybe something inside thum_cleaning02.jpg
Sometimes lint and other debris can collect in your drain pump filter. Keep things running smoothly by cleaning your drain pump filter occasionally.
  1. Open the drain pump filter cover by pressing on the center tab.
  2. Pull out the manual drain hose to the left of the filter cap and use a small bowl or pan to drain out any residual water (approximately 2 cups) that is remaining in the drain pump.
  3. Place a towel down on the floor to catch any left over water and remove the drain pump filter, by turning it counterclockwise.
  4. Remove any lint or items trapped in the filter by tapping it out into the wastebasket, and rinse it thoroughly with warm water.
  5. Replace the plug at the end of the manual drain hose and place it back into the holder. Then reinsert the filter into the drain pump opening and turn it clockwise to secure it back in place.

In the fall of 2009 I bought a front load 3.5 super capacity washer. All off a sudden it wont drain or spin and makes a buzzing/humming sound. Cancel and the bowl spins freely manually

You have something caught in your drain pump. If you have the manual for your machine, it would have instructions.
You need to locat and open the filter for the pump. Please note the machine is full of water, and when you open the filter cap, all the water will flow out.

I am not familiar with Kenmore as we do not have this brand in Australia. However, with most machines the filter is located at the front right bottom of the machine. Some have a flap open door then a twist cap. Other machines have a kick plate with needs to be removed, then a twist cap.
Some machine shave a hose bleeder next to cap which allows you to drain water out manually before opening the cap.
Once you open the cap clean filter and also check inside the cavity with a torch to see if anything is blocking the pump propellors.
Sometimes you are not able to physically see the pump propellors, so the pump needs to be removed and checked.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

I would gently suggest as a first step that you clean the drain motor/pump lint tray/filter. So many 'faults' are caused by blocked filters and many machines will not even go to rinse or spin or release the door lock if there is any water still left inside.
Following are my complete and hopefully 'coverall' pre-typed guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

My washing machine won't spin. i've cleaned the water hose filter and the pump filtre.

Hi eddyloz2000,

I believe your drain pump filter is just clogged. The drain pump is trying to pump the water out before the Spin cycle, but can't. Usually this is caused by a foreign object that is obstructing the impeller. See my tip on how to access, drain & clean the Drain Pump Filter:

After this, the Spin cycle will run, after the drainage procedure. If it does not, then you may need to replace the Drain Motor. Which is a easy task.

Kind Regards :-)

Washing machine Airturbo stops at 17 minutes and 7 minutes and error code SE appears. what is to be done washing nachine is one year old only

  1. Open the filter-cover near the bottom of the machine. Unscrew emergency drain cap by turning it to the left and drain off all the water. Unscrew the filter cap and take it out. Wash any dirt or other material from the filter. Make sure the drain pump propeller behind the filter is not blocked. Replace the filter cap. Replace the filter-cover.
  2. The Water Drain error can be cleared by turning POWER SW OFF and back ON.
  3. If the water only trickles out of the draining hose, pause the washer and blow air down the hose, you should hear the water inside the unit bubble a few times. If you don't hear bubbles, the hose is still blocked.
  4. Drain the load, empty the washer of clothes and try running a rinse & spin cycle. You should repeat this until the water runs clear from the drain hose.
  5. If the machine still fails to drain, you may need to replace your Drain pump.

AEG OKO LAVAMAT 72630 is showing E20. what does it mean?

Error code E-20 means drain problem. It means that the machine is not draining water correctly. Check the drain hose, to see if it is kinked or folded over. It could also be that the drain pump or drain hose are clogged. Drain the pump (check behind the little panel at the bottom right of the machine), first draining via the small emergency drain hose if you want to avoid a large puddle.
Also get the fluff filter removed and checked. If the filter is clogged then it will not let the water to get drained. The fluff filter is behind the little trapdoor below and to the right of the drum on the front of the machine. Open the door, unscrew the filter, and pull it out. It will be covered in smelly slimy multi-coloured fluff, which you need to remove. When you remove the filter, there is a good chance that a fair bit of water will come out at the same time, so, if you can place a very low bowl or similar below the filter before you unscrew it it will save you from having to mop the floor. You can get required parts from

HI, The machine displays "EFO"... We put the water out as described on your site but it seems the code "EFO" is still in memory (there is no more water inside, but each time we start a new program, the...

Frigidaire, Zanussi, AEG, & More....

EFO = Filter Blocked (low flow) and it is accessible from the bottom front of the machine.

1. there is a blockage in the filter or drain hose.takes too long to drain out.
2. over dosing of powder or liquid. again can cause an air lock in the pump which slows the drain pump down.

Check the filter and drain hose and test again. this fault will only come up at the end of a cycle.
You do not need to reset the machine to get rid of the fault code as this is automatically deleted.

Run an empty load with no detergent in an attempt to get rid of the code.
