i was trying to charge my zen on a cpu at work that did NOT have the zen installation disc installed on it. the lightning bolt over my battery sign indicated my zen should have been charging, however it did not. later that night i plugged my zen into my own laptop at home, the one that i installed my zen to in the first place, and it worked fine.
I also have that Zen Sleek.... you have to remove first the screen which sealed in a glue, then the keypad... from there you will have access to remove the top and bottom platings. You will need a precision tool of Philips Screwdriver to unscrew bottom and top platings.
Even rechargeable batteries eventually lose their ability to be recharged and need to be replaced. I suspect you need to purchase a replacement battery for your Zen M, install it, and charge it for use. I see there are several online sources for ordering Zen M replacement batteries. Also, since Zen M is a product of Creative, you may find better help by posting on the relevant product forum here: http://forums.creative.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3 .
