I have an old Canon DR5020 that is giving me code E21 on power up. It may briefly flash an E22 as well. Popping off the panels I find there are several blinking LEDs. Of the 3 visible boards I have back LED101 blinks slowly, side LED1 blinks rapidly, and top fold up LED1 blinks rapidly. I have tried replacing the Mainboard from another DR5020, but same error. Any ideas?
Canon Scanners are reliable. Canon has chosen error codes logically, 'P' os Paper related, 'C' os cover related, 'E' is Engineering Support related.
E21 is Document Motor Trouble. E2 is Separation Motor Trouble. Check of connection and load or you may to replace motor. Try connecting the motor to a different location and if the error is same, probably there is no motor fault, if it changes then it definitely motor fault. As a last thing you may need to change the PCB on the side.

Trying to scan from Brother MFC-8440 flatbed into Mac mini OS X version 10.5.4. Opened Image Capture. Image appears. Most options operable (Scan Mode, Document, Bit Depth, etc.) Overview works. Scaling stuck at 100%. Bigger problem: Scan button grayed out. Time is running out. Desperation grows. Can you help me?
