Re: What do I do when asked to change my password ...
Once a password has expired it can't be changed because in order to change a password, you must first enter the old existing password and then change it. So what you have to do is re-register. Since you haven't been specific about what the product is I can only answer in generalities.

Key Disk for Toshiba laptops
Some Toshiba notebooks allow to bypass BIOS by inserting a "key-disk" in the floppy disk drive while booting. To create a Toshiba Keydisk, take a 720Kb or 1.44Mb floppy disk, format it (if it's not formatted yet), then use a hex editor such as Hex Workshop to change the first fwe bytes of the second sector (the one after the boot sector) and set them to 4B 45 59 00 00 (note that the first three bytes are the ASCII for "KEY" :) followed by two zeroes). Once you have created the key disk put it into the notebook's drive and turn it on, then push the reset button and when asked for password, press Enter. You will be asked to Set Password again. Press Y and Enter. You'll enter the BIOS configuration where you can set a new password.
.
Before your computer loads your operating system, it starts by running the BIOS program, which is extremely important because of its various options.
You can even set a password on your hard drive so that nobody can use your laptop computer without your password.
Once you put in the password into your hard drive, you can only remove it by accessing the BIOS system and deleting the password completely from the memory of your computer.
Save all of your important files on an external hard drive or similar storage device.
This is a precaution to avoid losing all of your files when making changes to the BIOS.
Then, restart your computer.
Wait for your computer's operating system to ask you to access the BIOS menu.
This may be at different times, depending on the manufacturer of your computer.
It can ask you when the manufacturer's logo comes up, or on a separate screen indicating for you to click the "F2" button on your keyboard to start.
Access the BIOS menu by clicking the key or combination of keys that you are informed to click. This information can be found in your computer's manual, but it changes between different companies.
Commonly used keys for this process are "F10", "F2" and "Delete."
Go to the BIOS option that contains your hard disk drive password.
The option that will lead you to this password varies immensely due to different laptop models, but it may appear as something such as "Advanced" or "Security."
Look for the option for changing the password, which should say "User Password," and then click "Enter."
Put in the existing password and then click "Enter."
Do not enter any password into the blank fields asking you to enter a new password, and this will remove the password.
Exit the menu by clicking "Save and Exit." Click "Enter."
When you first turn on your system there should be a message at the bottom for you to choose an "F" key to enter BIOS. When you push that "F" key and enter BIOS choose the tab that says system. When you do the USER, HDD and Admin password will pop up. Choose the HDD and click enter. IT will ask for a password, dont type anything just simply click enter, and when it asks to retype the password push enter again. What this does is let the BIOS know it is a "CLEAR" password and lets it know not to ask for one. After you do that choose the "F" key that allows you to exit and save. Your system will re boot and will no longer should ask for a password to your HDD.
to set the new password in your computer or replace the existing password you have to press CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose change password and if asking for old password, enter your old password and at the second box enter your new password and at the third box confirm your new password press ok and thats it.
To reset password with software version 4.25.X or higher:
Click I forgot the password to receive a hint to the password.
Click I still can't remember the password if the hint does not help.
The Reset System Password page
opens, asking for the "System Key." This is the 10-digit WEP key from
the bottom of the HomePortal. (The printed number stays unchanged even
if you have changed the wireless security settings on the unit.)
Enter
the 10-digit WEP key, select a new password, enter it again to confirm
the password, and give yourself a new hint to the password.
Click Submit and your password is updated.
Temporary Passwords: A
customer may call in stating that their 2Wire is asking for a temporary
password. You will need to use CMS to reset their Gateway password.
Open CMS
The customer will read you the 20 digit code they see on their screen
You will generate a temporary password that is only good for 15 minutes.
The customer will enter the temporary password then create a new password.
After
15 minutes both the 20 digit code and the temporary password expire. If
the password process has not been complete in this time frame the page
will need to be refreshed for a new 20 digit code.
Now you can use the new password to enter the HomePortal protected areas and the Management and Diagnostic Console.
There is only ONE FREE way, and that is to make and use a Key Disk for Toshiba laptops. You'll enter the BIOS configuration where you can set a new password. . Or one can take it to an authorised service center, and for a price, and with proof of ownership, they will unlock your unit for you

Some Toshiba bios passwords can be reset using the Key Disk.exe utility, to
do this you need a 1.44Mb floppy disk.
Format the disk to be BOOTABLE using Windows and then
with a hex editor, change the first five bytes of the second sector to 4B 45 59
00 00.
Then put the floppy into your machine and boot it up, you’ll be asked for a
password, just press Enter. Then when you’re asked to set the password, type Y
then Enter, this will get you into the bios configuration where you can then
type in a new password.
