Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC28 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

I was using my dcr-h28 minidv cam yesterday and an error message stating dirty head came on the screen. So, I took a drop of alcohol on a q-tip and cleaned it up like I'd do on any other recording head... but this one did not end up working after. I put in a tape and record, and it seems fine until playback - Nothing is recorded. All I get is the blue screen and no timecode, just tape time lapsed. Did I burn the head out? Can it be fixed without visiting a repair shop?

Blue screen on lcd screen

The playback head is probably dirty and cannot show the picture - the screen is blue. Run a blank tape in the tape drive and execute a record all the way through the tape. Then play back a pre-recorded tape to verify it plays back ok.

I'm getting lines and mosaics on the video tape output of my Sony DCR-HC40, and a message on the viewing screen to use a head cleaning cassette. After a minute or so the lines go away and the video is...

NEVER try and manually clean your heads in your camcorder. The drum assy and heads are much more fragile and easily damaged than that of a VCR. NEVER spray any type of liquid/chemicals in or on your camcorder. A Sony miniDV head cleaning cassette is what you need. There are other brands out there, but Sony is hands-down the best. When using a head cleaner, play it for only 5 to 10 seconds at a time and then try your tape again. If it has improved, but still has problems then play the head cleaner for another 5 to 10 seconds. Hope this has helped. www.austintelstarservices.com

Sony handycam dcr-dvd105 has error message c21:00 moisture condensation. It has been like this for a week. My last use worked fine. I had stored it at room temp inside.

No knowing how old or condition of your equipment is ... its hard to suggest a solution. But the dew sensor of sony equipment tends to get dirty very quickly ... needs to be clean with a q-tip & alcohol every couple of years.

My sony after recording when play shows horizontal lines on screen I don't know how to fix it

either the tape or the recording head is dirty. use a new tape. if the lines are still there, get a head cleaner tape or use alcohol to clean the recording head.

Won't playback. acts like it's locked up.

This may be corrected by fast-forwarding the tape for a few seconds and then rewinding it back to the point where the issue first started. However, if the issue continues, this could be a sign that the video heads are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use a Sony MiniDV head-cleaning cassette (DVM-12CLD) to clean the video heads.
If the movie continues to stop at the same point even after cleaning the video heads, this could be an indication that there is a problem with the recording on the cassette tape. If this is the case, the data on that portion of the tape cannot be recovered.
NOTES:
  • It is recommended that a high-quality Sony MiniDV tape be used for recording.

Jvc miniDV 28x Optical Zoom

clean all brown oxide off capstan roller with 70% alcohol and Q-tip. Its the skinny silver axle that the rubber roller comes into contact with when the tape loads. This is what pulls the tape through the transport. also clean heads with head cleaner tape. If your head is dirty, the tape will wrap itself around the drum and cause a transport error.
