Try re-threading the bobbin you may have it in there backwards. If that doesn't work re-thread your needle thread and play with your tension.

SOURCE: Picking up the bobbin thread

A few suggestions:

  1. Rethread top of machine from scratch with the presser foot raised, i.e. remove thread completely from all thread guides & paths and start from scratch, making sure thread is securely seated between tension disks. Once the needle is re-threaded, lower the presser foot and give the tail end of the thread a tug to make sure there's tension on it.
  2. Make sure the bobbin is turning the correct direction for your machine - and that the thread tail is under the tension plate or bobbin tension guide (depending on machine).
  3. Blow out any fuzz.
  4. Insert a new needle, making sure needle is pushed all the way up.
  5. Oil machine (in locations recommended in your owner's manual).
If the basic cleaning and re-threading (above) don't help, your machine(s) may be out of time or have another mechanical issue that will require a repair technician. We recommend a tech trained on your specific brands - they'll be better trained and able to get any repair parts that may be needed.

Hope this helps narrow down your stitching problems.

Happy sewing,
Kim & Linnette

SOURCE: Bobbin Thread cutter no longer works

I have a designer SE, I ran across this site and found it very helpful. This person is a retired machine repair person and has a wealth of knowlege. <http://www.sewmuch4retirement.com/tips.html> from what I understand the blade needs to be cleaned as part of the Maintenance, it also can be replaced.

Take a look at this site, perhaps it will help

SOURCE: Top thread gets caught on crescent piece holding in bobbin case

If you have the manual take a better look at how to put the bobbin in the case,

sounds like you are putting it in wrong,

make sure you put the bobbin in with the thread com-ming off the bobbin in the right direction (left or right) if not put in the right way you will get what you are saying

ALSO: bring up the bobbin thread your self by turning the hand wheal and bring the thread a few inches to the back of the needle and hold when starting to sew the first 2-5 stitches.

when you do not hold the thread the machine will pull the thread in the bobbin area and cause problems.

you will get use to holding and it will get easier.

hope this helps

Machine will not pick up bobbin thread. ... - Your thread could be caught on something between the needle and your spool of thread if so, your thread will be too tight for the needle to pick up the bobbin thread. - Make sure that the upper thread is threaded properly. - Re-thread your machine, if necessary.

Hand wheel wont turn to raise needle.

If handwheel does not turn, you may have thread jammed in the hook. First try to force the handwheel BACKWARDS to try to force thread back out of hook. If handwheel turns, look around hook area and you will probably see a small piece of thread. Remove it with tweezers. To help eliminate this from happening, be sure to hold the needle thread when starting off.

Double check to see if the bobbin is in upside down and the thread is feeding from the bobbin spool in the wrong direction.
