SOURCE: Our dryer, described below, takes

Your complaint is:"Our dryer, described below, takes between 4 and 6 hours to dry, though it's advertised as "heavy duty" and "extra large capacity.""

White Kenmore 5.8 cu. ft. Super Capacity Gas Dryer
Sears item# 02690412000 Mfr. model# 90412

Based on the information provided above, I am unable to provide a positive solution to your issue. Your model number is incomplete! I have provided some common solutions to help guide you in your search. This information is for a non-specific brand model, gas dryer.

This link, http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SmartSearch.aspx, provides exploded view imagery, belt routing diagrams, parts imagery and function, parts ordering and shipping information, error code details, just about anything you need to get your appliance up and running again. Just follow the links to navigate through the site.

You will need to enter the model number stamped on the manufacturers product information data tag, located on the unit, and not in the User’s Manual. to access your product information.
It normally takes about 45 minutes for a dryer to dry a full load. If your dryer is taking more than an hour, check these:

Vent
Flame sensor/gas valve
Internal ductwork
Cycling thermostat
Lint Filter Vent: Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance. Also note that, to maximize drying efficiency, the vent should be as short as possible.

Flame sensor or gas valve coils: This is the most likely cause. Click links below. http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=3449&PPStack=1 http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=3229&PPStack=1 There's a flame sensor near the igniter. If it's defective, the gas may shut off prematurely. Another common problem occurs when one of the electrical coils on the gas valve fails intermittently. If this happens, the flame shuts off before the thermostat sends a signal, which can greatly prolong the drying time. If the sensor or the coils are causing the flame to shut off, replace them.

Internal ductwork Your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum, contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Cycling thermostat Although this isn't a common problem, one of the thermostats that controls the temperature in your dryer may break and cause the dryer to heat poorly. If so, you need to replace it. The thermostat is usually a small, round, black device mounted to an oblong steel plate. The plate is mounted to the internal ductwork with two screws.

SOURCE: dryer wont start when start button is pressed, but humming sound

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

Siemens dryer has a extra swishing sound like something got behind the drum

Is your dryer new?

if its isn't then probably that its ball bearings inside is started to end its service life or the belt begins to deteriorate and the drum touches the housing.

if its new, then probably that there is something getting loose inside or some foreign objects get inside the drum (e.g. moneys, pens, etc.).

When drying clothes, there is a loud banging noise, almost like if the clasp to overalls is hitting the inside of the dryer. Right now I am drying towels, so there is nothing metal or hard that could be...

Hi,

Check all exposed screws, and make sure they are tight. Loose cabinet screws may cause a banging sound. Make sure nothing is loose inside the drum. Remove the lint trap and look below the lint trap holder for any loose items that may have slipped through the cracks.
Check to see if the drum is supported on wheels or rollers. Sometimes these can wear and require replacement.

Good luck and have a nice day

When it rotates it gives metal banging sound what is the reason?

Hi,

Make sure dryer is level on the floor, and that nothing is leaning against the dryer.
Make sure nothing is loose inside the drum. Check all exposed screws, and make sure they are tight.

Check for foreign objects in the drum. (Coins, buttons and zippers will make a rattling sound as they roll around in the drum)

Makes a humming nose when you press start

Hi,

Gas Dryers may produce buzz when the solenoid opens. The valve clicks at the start of the heat cycle, start of ignition and when the burner turns off. The flame makes a low roaring sound.

Makes a noise like there is loose change in the dryer. Grey marks are coming off onto the clothes. checked. there is nothing inside the dryer or in the pockets of the clothes. Still happens- even with...

This sounds like a faulty drum bearing. The grey marks you are seeing are grease from the bearing. The loose change sound is from the remnants of the bearing rotating as the drum turns.

Kenmore Dryer Mod.76990100...shreiking noise when drum turns??

hi,
Dryer Is Noisy
1) Some noises are caused by objects bouncing around inside the drum. Scour the interior of the drum for loose objects.

2) If you cannot find any loose objects inside the drum, the noise may be caused by a defective part, such as a worn or defective drum belt, idler pulley, support rollers, glides, or worn motor bearings. It’s best to call an appliance repair service to replace these parts.

Noise in dryer

Does the drum turn smoothly, or does it bounce around? If it bounces, it could be the bearings in the drum wheels going out. The wheels would need to be replaced ($20 on up).

Sounds like a loose screw/bolt/nut during the spin cycle

Hi,
There is nothing wrong with your machine. Don'f bother with the sound , You said you threw 2 pair of jeans, so its bottons are causing the sound against the drum during cycle. Finished your laundry and worry no more. To make sure, throw some another clothing asides form jeans, like shirts, and feel the normal silent of your machine.

Good Luck,
Eriez
