In my case the issue causing this was because the clip holding the battery cover shut had broken off, so I kept it shut with tape or elastic bands. if the cover was even slightly open then it told me it was flat. once I realised that was the issue I just made the tape a bit tighter when the batteries low warning came on rather than changing them pointlessly.
On mine, the battery terminal on the inside of the battery case is broken, by opening and shutting the cover a few times until it contacts properly it is normally OK. Anyone know where I can buy a new contact plate in theUK?

I recommend to all my customers with AA battery life issues to try Energizer Lithium AA's. Virtually all battery issues solved. I think alkaline batteries are being manufactured poorly, these days, so even brand new they aren't great.
Check that you are using the correct type of batteries and that they are rechageable as i found i had a similer problem when using just normal non recargeable
Did the batteries come with the camera? If not, they might not be a high enough mah rating. Some batteries, even though brand new, may not be strong enough to power a camera.
Ive had the same problem with my camera and found that it was the quality of the batterys. you have to use good quality high drain batterys for digital cameras.
