Question about Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Both my Tom Tom and my Garmin Nuvi keep losing there signals.

Both my Tom Tom and Garmin Nuvi keep losing their signals or will not pick up the signal to start with. I have changed mounting locations and that does not seem to help. The Nuvi will find the signal rather quickly but loses it as soon as I move the car, literaly less than ten feet. I can turn them both on and they do not mirror each other as if the signal was lost due to overhead obstructions. The Tom Tom is about two years old and has just started with this problem, the Garmin is brand new and has not worked for over a half hour since I first got it. Thank you in advance for your help.

Nuvi 200w will not pick up sattalites

Make sure you are outside and as much in the open as possible. Staying stationary is the best way to insure a satellite signal. Give your GPS a few minutes if necessary to pick up a satellite signal. Also remember poor weather can effect a satellite signal reaching your GPS, just like it will satellite TV.

Hi i have a garmin 265 only 4 weeks old. i have lost all side roads and the navigation is well out. says im on the road next to me. i keep loosing gps signal also. any solutions??????????

I can help you reset and fix your Garmin Nuvi 265W.

Losing gps signal and poor tracking are indications that the firmware / system software inside your GPS need updating.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi 265W running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

I do not always get a signel

This is a problem in many navigation system. Place yourself where you get signal. insert your route, write it down in a piece of paper this way you will have it handy for when you loose signal.
Tom Tom is my favorite system and the signal is very good in it.

My garmin nuvi 200w sat nav keeps losing the gps signal. I've done a manual reset and used the webupdater to ensure the software is up to date but still it keeps losing the gps signal

There are a few options for you...
1. Check to see under what kind of conditions the GPS loses it's signal. If there are tall buildings, is a cloudy day etc or even the position of the GPS in the car (does it have a clear sight of view of the sky)... In the latter case, you could change the position of the GPS where it gets a clear view of the sky. For Cloudy days, better have a map ready or preplan the route using mapquest/googlemaps, as nuvi 200 series is especially notorious for these type of situations. For tall building problems, what I do is (c330, not nuvi), just tap the route displayed on the top before the signal gets lost and memorize the next few upcoming turns. Or avoid downtown (where those huge skyscrapers are)
2. If you have enabled WAAS setting in the settings menu (it should be somewhere under "GPS mode", disbale/uncheck it and use the normal GPS mode. WAAS may provide you a more accurate position, but at the expense of some avaialble satellites.

3. Or your GPS may have a genuine problem, then your only recourse is to call Garmin and talk to them. Here's the contact info:

Good Luck. Personally I would avoid the 200 series and go with the 3xx, 6xx or even better the 7xx series (if you need all the bells & whistles)
