Question about Memorex (32025638) (25 Pack) 16x DVD-R Storage Media

1 Answer

My DVD drive D works fine. Problem is with one particular CD.

I am trying to download pictures off a CD into my laptop. I keep getting an error msg: Please insert a disk into drive D. The disk is a Memorex DVD+R. However, I have no issue opening my other CD's so I know the problem is not my CD drive. Help plz!

This is a very common problem for all CD/DVD drives... sometimes.. there are CD-R DvD-R brands that will not work with your CD/DVD drive... its compatibility issues... another possibility is that the CD burning was bad.

This sounds like your DVD/CD drive is going bad. If it was a driver issue you would probably get an error of "no disk in drive".
Try running diagnostics on your computer to seeif you have a hardware problem. You should have a CD that came with thecomputer that has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed under contents.Boot form this CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to www.support.dell.com andselect "Drivers and Downloads". Enter the "service tag" (serialnumber) of the computer. You can then download "Diagnostics" .
To boot from a CD disk, power on your computer and tap the key tobring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD driveand then select "Boot from CD/DVD" and hit key. Select the"Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics.
If you have issues trying to boot form this CD or running the diagnostics then you CD/DVD drive needs to be replaced.

I want to restore to factory state but boot cd won't work

I think your hard drive which is a SATA drive, needs to be formatted specially for Vista.
you need to find out the make and model of your hard drive, and then you can download a hard drive formatting utility program from the hard drive manufacturers website.
The hard drive is accessed from under the keyboard on this model.

Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-831S ---upgraded drive in Toshiba laptop now doesn't work

Mary-
First, before you pull your hair out, try these and see what happens:

1) Can you get into safe mode? F8 at Windows startup will get you there. If you can get into safe mode, go to Device Manager and find the Entry for DVD/CD-ROM drives. If there is an entry under that, highlight and uninstall it. Reboot and see if Windows will reinstall the drive with no errors.

2) If option #1 isn't feasible, try actually removing the drive. Check the bottom of the laptop case to make sure there are no screws holding the drive in. If not, eject the CD tray, then pull gently but forcefully to get the drive to come out of the laptop. Boot into Windows and see if you still have any errors. If so, it's not the CD drive causing it.

I'll be happy to continue troubleshooting with you. Let me know what you find out :)

Computer is not recognizing my cd/dvd drive

Umm..Try install all the drivers of your system. the CD was enclosed in your system. if ever the cd is not work you should download the driver of your system.

or After installing a new windows do not restart your system until you finish all the driver installation and also the driver of your CD/DVD.

I 100% pinpoint that the your CD/DVD needs a driver. so install and you'll be fine.

Bad Cdrom/dvd
The laser going bad is a pretty common issue with the drives, since it's a Hitachi that spindle motor could be all gunked up with dirt as well and cause that issue also.
if ya have a Hitachi, if it's a Samsung it could just be the laser.
