My sander doesn't run at full speed - it's slow. I've changed the carbon brushes but this hasn't helped.

if it sparks a lot at the brushes , then there is an armature or winding fault
sanders are cheap so junk it and upgrade

My Festool orbital sander has suddenly omitted a puff of smoke from the top and has stopped working

If you have shorting again by trying replace the capacitor but if it is not working try to turn a little the fan insite there is a collector burned out the commutator of the armature . if the machine was too hot replace both the armature and electric field if the lasting is not to great , ask yourself is my machine not to old for repair ?? because of the costs of the spare parts and the housing and remaining part. try out if the machine was not running this connect the cable again switch it on and carefully use a small screwdriver through the ventilation slot over but do not be surprised if he comes quite sparks and run.

The electric statorfield can on one coil side be broken

Gr450 grinder variable speed has stopped woking, grinder goes to full speed when turned on with no affect from variable speed

i woulkd take switch off and rewire it. It is not a very difficult thing to do. As you take it apart just pay atention to where the speed control wires are running from and go from there. If it still dosent work than the switch is burnt out

I have this grinder, when i plug it in and turn it on it starts smoking and has an electrical burning smell. Is this the brushes going out? and it doesnt seem like it is going full speed. Is there a fix...

Brushes usually won't start smoking on power up. Sounds like shorted windings. I would recommend a new unit rather than risking a fire. I would also recommend a professional brand if it is something you will be using a lot. In the long run it will save you money.

No power nothing happens

Milwaukee tools have a 5yr warranty, best thing to do is to take it to a service center. It could be anything from the cord to switch, brushes, field coil etc. If it is newer than 5 yrs, thats the best route.
