Hi,

Performing an unsafe shutdown of any OS is a bad idea - it could easily cause data loss including file system corruption to the point where the OS may not boot successfully afterwards.
It is most likely that it is putting the network adapter in the PC into some sort of low-power state that Windows doesn't know how to wake it up from. The first thing to try is making sure that Windows has the latest driver for the network card in your machine.
Also, try completely powering off the PC (and by "completely" powering off I mean flip the switch on the PSU or wall-socket) shutting down Linux and starting Windows, which should fully reset the network adapter (unless it remembers the state in non-volatile memory so the condition survives a power-cycle). If this has the desired effect, while far from ideal, it will save you needed unsafe shutdowns until you have found the cause of the issue.
Another option would be to try another network card if you have a spare one handy. If the problem goes away with another NIC that will prove the problem lies in the old NIC or the drivers for it.

Thanks

I have a new Tork 1102 timer 240V. It works dial rotates clicks on and off but loses four hours in a 24 hour period what is wrong.

The timer motor is syncronous and meant to run on 208-277 Volt, 60 cycles per second. It appears that you have 50 cycle current running it, which would result in a 4 hour loss in every 24 hour period. There is no adjustment for this.

How to Extend iTunes Rental Movies Beyond 24 Hours

Do you think the 24-hour limitation for iTunes rental movies is too short? Do you usually miss the movie ending due to the period limitation? But is there any way to extent the iTunes rental movies beyond 24 hours

I have bought 24 hours for £6 do I have to use it all in one 24 hour period or can I use it over days. Thank you

Most likely you have only a 24 hour period. You can use it as much as you want during that 24 hour period.

We have a new 3 month old frigdaire gallery and the Ice makes doesn't constantly make ice and we are always running out. There are only two of us using the ice. What is wrong

The energy efficiency cuts down on the functionality. Newer refrigerators will only make 100cubes of ice in a 24 hour period try lower your freezer temp to -2 to help it run longer.

I need to know how to set this timer for a large swimming pool, and how long I need it to run, to keep it clean. I believe it is about 35,000 gals., in-ground pool.

You have Intermatic mechanical timer connected to swimming pool pump/filter.
Open following link to read about setting timer:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/How-to-operate-and-set-T104-timer.pdf
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html
Lift and rotate dial until current time is lined up with stationary pointer.
Put on-off trippers on outer edge of dial.
Timer comes with 2 sets of trippers, and you can order replaceable trippers. Up to 12 sets of trippers can be added to dial for a total of 12 ON and 12 OFF events each 24-hour period.
For 35000 gallon, pump should run at least 6 hours each 24-hour period. During freezing weather, if pipes are above ground, you can remove trippers from dial, set override lever to ON position, and run pump 24-hours to prevent frozen pipes.

My sony vaio laptop shuts down after A long period of usage

This is usually caused by 2 problems:
1 - hardware - the laptop overheats and simply shuts down; the only way to fix that is to put the laptop on a cooler like
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834981001&cm_re=laptop_cooler-_-34-981-001-_-Product
2 - software - Windows, during its functioning, keeps adding junk (remnants of closed programs) into its memory; when the junk start to impede corrct functionig Windows crashes; the only way to fix that is to reboot from time to time, every 4 hours in XP (or 5 hours in Vista or 7) will be enough.

GE TBF 17DB 17,2 cu.ft. refrigerator/freezer runs continuously.

Set both controls to their middle settings. Put a glass of water in the frig with a thermometer in it and check the temperature in 48 hours. I is normal for the newer appliances to be on longer than off. Power consumption is highest during start up and it is more efficient to start less often and run longer. When adjusting controls ONLY change one by one number and wait 24 hours before making another change.

PC had problem with VGA signal after a wireless router was instal

There's no way the router would affect the VGA signal. You might have just accidentally trip the VGA cable on the back of your computer causing a loose connection. Just unplug and replug the VGA cable then reboot your computer.
