Boiled water and it exploded, now the microwave is broken

I was boiling water in the microwave to clean it once the condensation was on the walls, top, etc.  I must have overheated the water because the water exploded flying the door open.  Now the whole microwave is out.  Nothing on the control panel, inside light is off... I tried resetting the circuit breakers a few times, but nothing.
Did I completely break the microwave from boiling water???
thank you! Pat in VA

I used a Pyrex glass measuring cup to boil the water in. The water exploded blowing the door open to the microwave (glass did not break).
I have turned off and on the circuit breaker, but still nothing... the microwave is as if you unplugged it - nothing on the panel is working nor is the time showing.... light is off in the microwave itself also.
Is there a fuse in the microwave? We have a GE that is a wall unit.
    Thanks,
    Pat in VA

Yes there is a fuse most likely a ceramic not a glass type. How long did you heat the water for? I have seen magnetron tubes which produce the microwaves to heat the item go bad and cause the case of the microwave to get very hot. This is unsafe and could start a fire, you can look inside the microwave and remove the mica or plastic cover which covers the wave guide and look for burnt paint. If you see any sighs of burning junk the microwave oven, or have the unit repaired.

Wow, from the looks of it you need to unplug wait 60 seconds plug in to restart, ot buy a new microwave. Perhaps if in the microwave terms it didn't say not to do that call the manufacturer and the will replace it for free

Micro won't work after boiling water under it all day

I am not sure what you mean by boiling water under it all day. If it was under the unit, it probably shorted it out and it won't work. If you were using it constantly to boil water, you may have overheated it. To be safe, please unplug it and call the manufacturer.

Tip

Clean your microwave

Use vinegar and water to clean the inside of your microwave when switched off and use bleach jik to clean the outside body.

Then boil water, whole lemon in the microwave for freshness and store it (the boiled mix after cooled) in the fridge to act for the same.

MICRO WAVE DOOR FOGS UP WHEN USING IS THAT NORMAL

A Microwave Oven works by heating water/moisture in food: if the boiling action (e.g. when boiling water) is greater than the oven exhaust fan can cope with, then the inside will steam up and fog the door glass: this is usually OK and 'normal' (this is actual the advise in cleaning up the interior of a microwave oven - steamy soapy water - see your manual).

Hope it helps.

Can i use water boiled from microware to make formula milk for a baby that is 1yr old

I wouldn't recommend to use the microwave to boil water. Here you can read the reason why: http://www.snopes.com/science/microwave.asp

Water can 'explode' when heated in a microwave under certain conditions. Best way to boil water should either be using a water boiler or an old-fashioned kettle.

Exploded a musical mug in spacemaker xl1800 microwave.

If there's no damage it should be fine.

I would double-check for cracks, especially in the inner door glass and the screen / mesh.

If it looks fine, heat a cup of water in a microwave-safe container for about 2 minutes and see if it cooks without arcing or odd noises and that it boils in about 2 minutes.

As always, never leave a microwave unattended while running.

Boiling water

This is not unusual, and it can reuslt in a nasty burn.

It may help if you be sure the sides of the container are wet before you heat it.

Also, after heating, if you push the microwave back and forth a little bit before opening the door, that may trigger the outburst in a safer manner.

Even better, if this happens a lot with a certain container, put a wooden (non-metallic) spoon in the container before you heat it.

Here's an interesting article about this from Snopes:
http://www.snopes.com/science/microwave.asp

And an advisory from the FDA:
