H95, H97, H98 or H99 mean that there's a problem with your inverter, magnetron, or digital programming circuit.

It may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Shuts down after a few seconds and displays H98 can I rectify is it viable to have repaired or scrap it, as it is coming up to 5 years old?

H98 means the component that produces the microwaves is fried. It costs more to have it replaced than to buy a new microwave, so if it isn't under warranty, throw it away and start shopping.

What does it mean when a Panasonic microwave is displaying H98

The H98 error means that there is a problem with the magnetron, the inverter or the programming circuit. This is an area of the microwave with a high voltage and thus should only be dealt with by a professional from Panasonic service.

I wish that I had better news for you. Unless the microwave is still under warranty, you probably will find it cheaper to replace it.

My panasonic will run for about six seconds and stops, and smells like burning wires and it shows a message "SENSOR RE-HEAT PRESS START"

If it stops after 7 seconds, it has a problem with the inverter.

If it stops at 16 seconds and is a sensor model, it probably has a defective humidity sensor. But I don't think that's the issue here.

It may be a loose connection in the wiring between the inverter, magnetron, and/or control board, or maybe one of those components has failed.
