Usually means the main gas jet is plugged with dirt or sludge, the carburator will have to be taken off and cleaned, and use compressed air or a small wire to clean out the little orifices.
You might have to clean the fuel tank also.

Engine seems to run fine as long as the plug is not fouled however it smokes and leaks oil from the fuel pump. It seems as though there is too much crank case pressure

oil from the fuel pump may indicate a failure of the diaphragm of the fuel pump and petrol is getting into the sump
that will raise the oil level to a point where the oil ring can longer control the oil getting to the top of the piston
it is possible that the sump breather hose is blocked or if it has a small pvc valve that that is blocked

Have a self-starting, self propelled toro lawn mower about 5 years old, I ran it out of gas by accident & now it won't start

It seems to be an obstruction in your fuel delivery system. Get a can of ether and a spray a short burst of it into the breather area near the carburetor, if the mower starts up and then stalls out, then you may need to get your carburetor serviced.

The 'primer' doesn't work on my mower's Briggs & Stratton engine. Is there an easy fix?

You can try pumping primer bulb 10-15 times instead of 3 or 4 that manual probably suggests. We have a craftsman 22 inch cut push mower with a 3.5 H.P. BRIGGS &STRATTON engine and if you don't prime it at least a dozen times it will not start. It is possible that you have a small hole in your primer bulb in which case it can't create suction to bring gas to carburator. If this is the problem you can purchase a new bulb and seal at most larger SEARS stores or service centers.I would guess that if you have manual for mower you can get part number and phone number to get new parts .Hope this helps. Thanks

Lawn mower won't start

to check for firing remove the spark plug insert it in the plug boot and pull the rope while watching to see if the plug sparks be carefull not to touch the plug electrode while pulling the rope or it will shock you. If you don't have a spark, try a different plug. If still no spark the coil could be bad.

Craftsman 7.0 HP Briggs & Stratton mower stalling

Check the muffler, if the muffler is clogged it could cause overheating of the engine, and could keep the engine from getting the necessary fuel-gas mixture.

Engine starving for fuel, fuel filter very low, almost empty

your fuel pump is diaghram actuated by pulses from crankcase pressure, if you look there is a small tube that runs from pump to valve cover, pull fuel line off carb and have some one crank it over to see if it's pumping. could be pump or blockage between tank and pump, if fuel flow seems good to carb, i would pull bowl off and check for dirt and also make sure anti run on valve, the thinghy that holds the bowl on to carb is opening properly, it should open and close when you turn key from off to run, beyond that it could be you have some water in your gas.

Your engine model # 128602 Type 0212-E1. Forget about ordering from Sears and paying shipping and waiting a week. Go to your local Briggs and Stratton dealer (most shops are) and buy part # 694395. Should cost about $3.00
