I just bought a brand new diamond vc500 capture

i just bought a brand new diamond vc500 capture card and when i try to use it, it captures about 3 seconds and stops then says ''no video was captured. please check if there is any input signal. there might not be any device selected'' it does captured the small amount before the msg pops up though
