You can disconnect the electrical plug on the rad cooling fan/s and run jumper wires directly to the motor contacts from the battery if it does not run replace the cooling fan motor. if the motor runs then check for a bad cooling fan relay. this is were its best to have a scan tool as you can see the coolant temp of the engine and the computer commanding the cooling fans to come on. if the computer commands the fans to come on then you have eliminated 2/3 of the system working.

SOURCE: engine problems 1999 dodge neon sport 2.0 L 16 valve DOHC

I had the same problem. I replaced the temp sensor and used a 2 pair of wires to test the fans. The fans were worked. The problem was the wire connection to the control module.

Cooling fans work then dont

Possibly faulty cooling fan relay... the fan has an override when the A/C comes on. (Wouldn't be a faulty temperature sensor, or the fan would work when overheating.)

My bmw 528i car overheats when sitting but not when aplying gas

Most likely the clutch fan or water pump. Just did BMW clutch fan. At idle it was turning fast. You could reach down and stop it with your hand. I don't recommend doing this though.

Why does my 2002 millenia overheat when sitting idle

Could be your cooling fan not running. While the car is moving air is being pushed through the radiator, but when the car is still the fan is there to pull air into the radiator, if the fan is not running the car will heat up while sitting but cool back off when you are going down the road.

What cause of overheat from engine

an engine will overheat if the rad cooling fan is not working, this will have to be check to see if its the fan motor, the fan relay. low coolant level, top up coolant check for leaks. could be head gasket problem, bad water pump(impeller worn).

The car is over heating while sitting still and is fine while in motion the fluids and belts are all good but I recently took it to an auto shop and they suggested that I replace the thermastate and the...

i would check and make sure the cooling fan is operating,if not it will overheat sitting still.a thermostat will cause overheating whether or not it sits still or driving(more so when driving).the same if it has a bad water pump although it may circulate just enough coolant when driving to not overheat with air flow also adding a cooling effect.if you don`t have a leak then i would say the water pump is okay as they usually will leak before causing a overheat problem.make sure the cooling fan is working and the rad does not have anything stopping the air flow over the rad and is not stopping coolant flow in the rad.

My 2005 nissan frontier overheats while sitting still what is wrong with it?

Sounds like coolant isn't circulating. While moving engine making pump circulate coolant and fresh air hitting front of radiator. At idle or a stop, engine not making pump run as fast and there is no fresh air hiiting radiator ( especially if fan isn't working properly) Check out water pump and cooling fan.

How does the fan operates, does it starts and stop. Car shuts down, red light come near milage guage, have to let car cool down and start again. Can fan cause this problem? Pontiac Gran Am 1998.

the cooling fan should come on about 105-107C and shut off about 95-97C
does the car overheat just sitting running not moving
but if the car overheats on the highway then it's not the fan
check the fan operation run the car till the gauge is over half and watch the fan
if the fan woks then check coolant level if that's ok then try a thermostat
hope

2000 Plymouth Voyager Overheating

The radiator cooling fan relay has most likely failed. It is underneath the air cleaner on the frame rail just behind the radiator. NO cooling fan = overheating. This is the first thing i would look at. Best way to tell is when the van gets hot see if the cooling fan is on. You will hear it running if it is coming on. It will set a code for the cooling fan relay also.
