32-bit RIMMs are 232 pins thus, you are looking for 16-bit RIMMs.

probably no, 32 bit systems have an under 4Gb limit. looks like 2 memory slots 1,2,4 and 8Gb supported.

The Intel Desktop Board D850GB has four RIMM sockets (two sockets for each channel) and supports the following memory features:

Single- or double-sided RIMM configurations
Maximum of 32 Direct Rambus devices per channel
Total system memory configurations from 128 MB (minimum) to 2 GB (maximum) utilizing 128/144 Mbit or 256/288 Mbit technology PC600 or PC800 compliant RDRAM
Serial Presence Detect (SPD) based configuration for optimal memory operation
Suspend to RAM support
ECC and non-ECC support

When installing memory, note the following:

The four RIMM sockets are grouped into two banks:
Bank 0 (labeled on the board as RIMM1 and RIMM2)
Bank 1 (labeled on the board as RIMM3 and RIMM4)
Bank 0 must be populated first ensuring that the RDRAM installed in RIMM1 and RIMM2 is identical in speed, size, and density. For example, the minimum system configuration would use two 64 MB RIMM modules of PC600 or PC800 RDRAM.
If the desired memory configuration has been achieved by populating Bank 0, then Bank 1 should be filled with two Continuity RIMMs.
If memory is to be installed in Bank 1, the RIMM modules installed in RIMM3 and RIMM4 must be identical in size and density to each other, and match the speed of the RIMM modules in Bank 0. The RIMM modules do not, however, need to match those in Bank 0 in size and density. For example, if Bank 0 has two 128 MB RIMMs of PC800 RDRAM, Bank 1 would require PC800 RDRAM also, however, any other supported RIMM modules such as 64 MB or 192 MB could be used.
If ECC functionality is required, all installed RIMM modules must be ECC-compliant.

I just need to upgrade the memory on a Dell Precision 530MT.. can't seem to find the exact type of memory it needs.. any ideas?

When installing memory modules in the system board sockets and not using the optional memory riser boards, observe the following guidelines:
  • Each memory socket on the system board must be occupied either by a RIMM or a CRIMM.

  • Memory sockets must be upgraded in matched pairs. In other words, two sockets in a pair must contain modules of identical capacity, number of components, and speed. See "System Board Memory Components" to identify pairs of sockets.

  • Mixed pairs of ECC and non-ECC modules all function as non-ECC.

  • Be sure to install a RIMM in socket 1 first (closest to the processor) before installing modules in the other sockets.

  • The system board supports PC600 and PC800 memory modules.

1) The motherboard has a Socket 423 processor socket.

This processor socket has the socket holes, while the processor has the pins. Has 423 socket holes.

The Intel Celeron D 315 uses an LGA775 processor socket.
LGA775 is also known as Socket T. Has 775 pins in the processor socket. The processor used has the socket holes. 775 of them.

2) The Intel D850GB motherboard only supports Single Core processors. Not Dual Core like a Pentium D.
Must be an Intel single core processor, that fits in a Socket 423 processor socket.

Intel only made processors to fit the Socket 423 for about 2 years. Intel had a deal with Rambus, for memory to fit Intel's motherboards, for this period of time. The deal fell out, and Intel moved on.

The Intel D850GB motherboard Only uses RIMM memory modules, ('Stick/s') made by Rambus.

Your existing CPU will not work with that motherboard. The AM2+/AM2 processor slot is for AMD processors only. For this motherboard, you will need one of the following processors: Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2

Memory limit for my dell E139761 motherboard


Although the motherboard ultimately decides how much memory your system can handle, Dell does not list the specifications of motherboards. You need the model number of the computer, and if the motherboard is not the original one that came in the computer when it was built by Dell they won't know either.

You can go to dell.com and put in your service tag to see the specifications yourself. If you post the computer model number or service tag here that's what someone else will do anyway.

Problem with P4ITA2 Motherboard recognizing RDRAM upgrade


Sometimes, if the memory is a newer type, even though it matches the specifications laid out by the motherboard, there may be other factors like timing and voltage which cause a motherboard to not function with that memory. A lot of the time a motherboard manufacturer will be made aware of this problem and release a BIOS update to resolve it. Have you checked the motherboard manufacturer's website, ESC, to see if your particular motherboard is up-to-date with the most currently released BIOS version?

You can figure out what version of BIOS you're running if you go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information. On that first page it will list the BIOS version information and the date of that BIOS. If ESC has a newer BIOS available, you might try updating the BIOS to see if that resolves the issue.

The motherboard has three, dual in-line memory module (DIMM) sockets. Minimum memory size is 16 MB; maximum memory size is 768 MB. The largest DIMM supported at this time is 256 MB using unbuffered 128 Mbit technology parts. The BIOS automatically detects memory type, size, and speed.

The motherboard supports the following memory features:
  • 168-pin DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
  • 66 or 100 MHz SDRAM
  • Non-ECC (64-bit) and ECC (72-bit) memory
  • 3.3 V memory only
  • Unbuffered Single- or double-sided DIMMs in the following sizes:

Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) can be installed in one, two, or three sockets. EDO DIMMs are not supported. Memory size and speed can vary between sockets.

Note: Intel® Pentium® II processors with 100 MHz front-side bus should be paired only with 100 MHz SDRAM. Processors with 66 MHz front-side bus can be paired with either 66 MHz or 100 MHz SDRAM.

All memory components and DIMMs used with the Intel® SE440BX-2 motherboard should comply with the PC SDRAM specifications. These include: the PC SDRAM Specification (memory component specific), the PC Unbuffered DIMM Specification, and the PC Serial Presence Detect Specification.

Note: It is recommended that SPD memory DIMMs be used with the SE440BX-2 motherboard. However, the BIOS will allow the use of non-SPD DIMM memory.

So the max you can go is 3 x 256 MB.

Step 5: Remove a memory or continuity module Continuity modules do not contain memory, but are placeholders to close the memory circuit. Use the following steps to remove a memory or continuity module:
  1. Pull out, and then press down on the holding clips that retain the memory modules. The memory modules should rise up slightly out the socket. Figure 5: Opening memory module tabs c00571682.gif
  2. Pull out the memory or continuity module (for RIMMs) and place it in a static-safe container.
Step 6: Add a memory module Use the following steps to insert a memory module into an empty socket:
  1. If RIMMs are being used, keep the following items in mind when purchasing and installing modules:
    • The memory configuration of channel A (the first two sockets) and channel B (the second two sockets) must be identical.
    • Continuity RIMMs must fill any open memory sockets.
    • When a continuity RIMM is required, it should be installed into the second socket.

PROCESSOR HISTORY AND INFORMATION

INTEL 4004 - Microprocessor introduced in 1970 with the speed of 108KHz was the worlds first microprocessor.

MOTOROLA 68000 - Microprocessor released in 1979 was later chosen by Apple for the Macintosh computer.
INTEL 8087 - Floating-point math compressor compliant with the 8086 / 8080 microprocessor family.
INTEL 8088 - Microprocessor released in 1979. The 8088 was the first Processor used in the original IBM PC and XT personal computers because it was less expensive than the 8086 microprocessor because of the availability of less expensive eight-bit data bus supporting chips made it the microprocessor for the IBM PC. The 8088 was available in speeds from 4.77 MHz and 8MHz.and used the 16-bit architecture allowing it to work internally with 16-digit numbers. The 8088 had the ability of addressing up to 1MB of RAM.
INTEL 80286 (Code Name: P2) - Microprocessor introduced by Intel in 1982 which commonly is referred to as the 286 processor. The 286 processor supported 16-bit architecture, supported virtual memory, and was available in clock speeds of 8MHz, 10MHz, and 12MHz. The 286 was around 20 times faster than the predecessor 8088.
INTEL 80287 - A compliant processor to the 286, a floating-point math coprocessor. Specially designed 286 chips have the capability of placing the optional 80287 processor on top of it, giving the computer a math coprocessor.
INTEL 80386DX (Code Name: P3) - Microprocessor manufactured in 1985 was the next generation of Intel processors. The 80386DX included the math compressor, unlike the 80386SX, and still featured the 32-bit architecture and built-in multitasking. The chip was available in clock speeds of 16MHz, 20MHz, 25MHz, and 33MHz.
SPARC - Released in 1987 is short for Scaleable Processor ARChiture by Sun - used RISC (Reduced Instruction Set) to speed up processing.
INTEL 80486DX (Code Name: P4) - Microprocessor released April 10th 1989. The 486DX featured a built-in memory cache and 32-bit architecture. It had more than three times the computing power of the 386DX and was available in clock speeds of 25MHz, 33MHz, and 50MHz.
INTEL 80386SX - Microprocessor introduced in 1989 was the next generation of Intel processors. The 80386SX lacked a math coprocessor but still featured the 32-bit architecture and built-in multitasking. The chip was available in clock speeds of 16MHz, 20MHz, 25MHz, and 33MHz.
