1999 waverunner: does it have a screen under the

1999 waverunner 760 XL: does it have a screen under the botton to keep sand from sucking up off the bottom? And how do you clean it? Mine lost power after running through a dead creek. The rpm goes up but it will not increase speed. It sounds like a boat that has the prop out of the water. We clean out the weeds that we could reach in the intake on the bottom too.
Thanksfor any info,
Betty Jo

You may require a new wear ring for the jet pump, especially if a lot of sand has gone through the pump. I don't know of any screen that protects the jet pump and water intake.

Check for daylight between the pump impellor blades and the outer wall (wear ring). Any water allowed to escape past here will cause a lot of power loss.

Have you done a compression test on all cylinders? My guess is you have a dead cylinder (no oil to one or more cylinders causing loss of power). If the compression test passes (all cylinders equal and higher than 100-110 psi) you have a restricted exhaust from a failed catalytic converter that has broken apart.

Beach sand stuck

sand doesnt do that there is something that has gotten between your wear sleeve and your impellar you need to get it out of the water and look up under it and make sure there is no rocks ropes sticks ect.. up in there if it is clear then you need th buy the impellar wear sleeve its the part tha goes around the impellar if the clearance is not tight the boat will not move will just rev and prop wash or cavatate if you want to clean it good you need to take the impellar and the housing off it unbolts from the back of the ski
