Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Basically can I have 2 ISPs in one house? Namely Orange and AOL. I am moving in with my brother who has AOL and has done for years. I have suggested to him he cancel and we use mine. He wont budge, having been with them since day one and apparently claiming 'Iv got a good deal'. My experience of AOL is, well, its for grannies right? Clugging up systems with all sorts of addons etc... I just want good speeds, great access and no spaff. Which is what I get currently. All help appreciated! Thanks

Absolutely. You can have as many as you like but will most likely incur installation charges for each one if they can't share the same lines. The problem you will most likely encounter is, if using dialup, you both try to get online at the same time using different providers. That can't happen. If using DSL or cable, you should both be good to go. However, if you can access your account on the web without using their access specifically, it doesn't make much sense to pay full price for the account. See if they have cheaper rates for accounts providing their own internet access.

What to insert for PPPoE Service name to connect to internet

PPPoE stands for Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet, it's basically authentication for ISPs that use Usernames and Passwords to get you connected to the internet. If your ISP uses PPPoE you'll have to change the 360's settings to connect to the Xbox Live service.

Your PPPoE info should have been given to you when you signed up for your internet service(some ISPs even print the info somewhere on your hub/modem), otherwise you'll have to call them up and get the info from them. It's also important to know that if you're ISP doesn't use PPPoE you should leave these settings blank on your 360 or it won't connect.

Since you haven't connected to the live yet I'll assume you're still on the older dashboard so it should go like this:

1. Move to the System area of the Xbox dashboard.
2. Select Network Settings.
3. Select Edit Settings.
4. On the Additional Settings tab, select PPPoE Settings.
5. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the PPPoE information that was provided to you by your ISP.
6. Select Done.
7. Select Apply and Test when you are prompted to do this.

I just started receiving some paper jam errors. When I opened the back cover I noticed there is a huge chunk taking out of an orange foam roller and orange foam bits are all over inside my brother printer....

Sounds like your fuser is toast. I would contact Brother and try to get it replaced on warranty if it still applies. If not, it's basically dead. Sorry.

I have seven chairs, to be divided proportionally among the three tables, without sawing any chair into pieces. How can it be done?

See below.

Borrow one chair, to make 8 chairs.
Put 1/2 of the chairs, namely 4, at the first table.
Put 1/2 of the remaining chairs, namely 2, at the second table.
Put 1/2 of the remaining chairs, namely 1, at the third table.
That puts 7 (4+2+1) chairs at the tables.
Return the borrowed chair.

Unable to use with aol

Try calling them directly, AOL uses software which messes with your TCP/IP settings and not compatible with other ISPs like Verizon, NEtZero, etc...
