Recovery is offered when a document appears damaged. This can be due to the document not being saved before closing, or if it was created on windows using microsoft office then opened in ubuntu using libre office, or open office.
Once recovered, save in the open document format and this issue should not continue.

Are you the original owner? If you did not make a set of recovery discs, you may have to go to emachines and order them. They are about $20. I recently refurbished an emachine and that is what we had to do.
You will need the model number and serial number. They cannot download it to you either.

Is it possible to make word repair document?

When you restart a Microsoft Office program after a power failure or similar problem, the program automatically opens any recovered files.
If for some reason the recovery file didn't open, you can open it yourself.

1. On the Standard toolbar, click Open .
2. On the Show pop-up menu, click All Documents.
3. Locate the folder that contains your recovery files.
Each recovery file is named "AutoRecover save of file name."
4. Open the recovery file.
5. Click Save .
6. In the Save As box, enter the name of the existing document.
7. When you see a message asking whether you want to replace the existing document, click Yes.

Any recovery files that haven't been saved are deleted when you quit WorTips

• If you can't open the recovery file, you can try to recover the text from the damaged file.
• To find out or change where your recovery files are stored, click Preferences on the Word menu, and then click File Locations.

Otherwise apply Word Repair Toolbox

Tool has a lot of different tricks, know more at:- http://www.word.repairtoolbox.com/

Whenever I try to download and open a new program, the computer asks me to choose a program to open it with.

Hi golfnutz
Usually a file is opened by a program that specifically handles that kind of file, for example MS word opens (amongst others) .doc files and .rtf files MS Excel opens .xls and .xlsx files.
A downloaded program would normally need to be installed before you can use it, if the program files are in a compressed format then they will need to be extracted before they can be installed.
Try right clicking on the files and if the menu that opens includes the option to extract all then select that.
You should be able to tell what sort of file you are trying to open by looking at the file extension, program files usually end with the extension .exe.

Linkid 104288 Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033

Hi Vasava,
Before solving your problem.
Q.1. Is it only happening for this single document? Try to open other documents too. If you can open other word docs, you can eliminate the issue with Win Word application problem. The problem is in your document itself. If you can't open any other word docs, than this is the application problem.
Q.2 This is for Win Word application problem. Can you find "Microsoft Office Application Recovery" under "Start menu-->All Program-->Microsoft Office-->Microsoft Office Tools". Try recovering your application with this tool. It solve my problem with Ms Excel.
Q.3 Do you have Ms Office setup cd with you. This is if the above 2 fails. You will need to reinstall Ms Office.

My guess for you problem is, you have a defected document file.
Please try the above and let me know, if I can help further.

Looking for word document I did not save

Open Microsoft Word if it's not already open.

This may automatically open a list of your recent unsaved files, which with any luck includes the one you're looking for.

If this happens, simply open this document from the list.

Click the blue "File" tab in Word, and then click "Info" on the left side of the screen.

Click the "Manage Versions" icon to bring up a list of options.

Click "Recover Unsaved Documents" from this list. This opens a list of your unsaved documents.

Select the document you're looking for in this list, and then click "Open."

This opens the document, which now has a yellow bar across the top.

Click the "Save As" button in the yellow bar.

Save your document with your desired name to your preferred location.

or

The power just went out while you working on an important document you forgot to save.

Do not panic because Microsoft Word comes equipped with a feature that automatically will recover files you did not save.

Typically, this feature works by default.

The program allows you to change how often Word saves your documents and you can adjust the location where Microsoft Word saves these "Auto Recover" files.

Open up Microsoft Word.

Do not click on a file to open the program.

Instead, open the program by double-clicking on the program's icon.

Allow the program to load for a couple of minutes before clicking on anything.

Look on the left side of the screen.

If Microsoft Word recovered the file, a "Document Recovery" task pane will load.

Find the file's date.

Double-click on the file in the "Document Recovery" pane.

This will open the file in Microsoft Word.

Click on the "File Menu" and select "Save As."

Save the document as a ".doc" file type, and type a name for your document in the "File Name" box.

or

Open Microsoft Word to determine if the program auto-recovered your document.

If your software is set to auto-save your document every couple of minutes, when the program is restarted, any document that was not saved prior to closing, may appear in the auto-recover window on the left side of the screen.

Click on your document, and the last-saved file will open.

However, anything you typed after the last auto-save is gone, but at least you haven't lost the entire document.

Search the auto-recover files manually if the auto-recover pane did not appear when you opened MS Word.

Click the Start menu at the bottom of your computer screen, and click "Search." Some operating systems have the search option as a part of the Start menu.

Search for "*.asd" to search for any recovered files.

If you find the file, open Word, and click "Open" in the menu.

Search through all files, and locate the file that ended in .asd. Click "Open" to view your file.

If you are using Word 2002 or 2003, you need to restart your computer after clicking "Open." Re-open Word after your computer re-boots to view the recovered file.

Check your backup files.

If you have the "Always create backup copy" option selected in Word, you may be able to find a backup copy of your document.

Find the location where you last saved the document.

Check for the extension .wbk.

If there aren't any, search your whole computer for files with that extension.

Open your file by clicking "Open" in Word, and search all files for the .wbk extension.

Once you locate the file, click "Open."

Look in the temporary files on your computer.

Complete a search for files that end in the extension .tmp by typing "*.tmp" into the search box.

Narrow the search down to specific dates of when you were working on the document.

If the file does not show up, try searching for the "~*.*" convention.

Some temporary files are in this format instead.

If your document is now in your temporary files, you will need to recover the damaged document.

Search for it within Word.

Click "Open and Repair" when you find it.

Hope this helps

When I try to open a word doc. or excel document there is an error message and microsoft will not open them. but i can open the document through word or excel, by using the open feature. but just by double...

you have to right click the file (word doc. or excel doc.) and select "open with". A window will appear that allows you to choose which program will open this file. Select word for the word docs and excel for the spreadsheets and select the option to always do this for these files types. Once the default program has been set all other files with those extensions will now open with those programs. Good Luck and Please Respond to this post!!!!!1 Rate Fixya if the problem was solved!!!!! :D

I had a cad drawing and I was messing around with it and lost it tried recover and can't recover it. I had someone resend it to me and every time I get it it changes to a file I can't open it is white page...

Most CAD programs such as AutoCad have a history of recently opened files. In AutoCad go to TOOLS/ OPTIONS/ FILES/ Automatic Save location. There you should find a file with the same name but a different file extension such as .BAK (AutoCad back-up) You can set AutoCad to automatically save to any time period, such as every 15 minutes.

Make a copy of this .BAK file so you keep that unchanged, Then change the file extension of the copied .BAK file to .DWG. Then you should be able to open this file. A file with an extension containing the $ symbol needs to be recovered using the programs recovery tool, in FILE/ DRAWING UTILITES/ RECOVER

If you're using a different CAD program look for this backup file wherever the programs Autosave files are set to be stored.

One other possiblity is the file extesnsion is set by your computer to open with another program for some reason. Right click and hit "open with"

Let me know if this helps
